I'd rather keep DeMar and trade Ross. He's younger and cheaper... we might be able to add a bad contract like Fields or Bargnani to him and make it happen.
I really like the prospect of completing a sign-and-trade with Utah for one of their two bigs. Jefferson or Millsap would be big additions to this lineup.
I like the idea of Millsap/Jefferson too but I don't see Utah taking Fields/Bargnani for a one big reason (I used to think they would). They need to re-sign Hayward & Favors in 2014/2015. Both will command significant money. I could see them doing a S&T in order to get a 1st back/young asset but the contracts they recieve would need to be of the expiring variety.
Something like I proposed earlier
To TOR: Millsap
To BRK: Bargnani
To UTA: Hump + 2014 1st (via TOR) (protected)
I hate losing a 1st in a deep draft but I think Millsap pushes us to top 4 in the East. So if we add protection on it (say top 10 protected) it would make it easier.
You conclude the off-season with
- amnestying Kleiza (to avoid luxury tax)
- declining Lucas 1.5 million (too much for a 3rd PG)
- signing a backup PG with part of the MLE
- fill out roster with vet guys for minimum
Lowry / PG / PG
Derozan / Ross / SG
Gay / Fields
Millsap / Amir / Acy
Val / Gray / C
Pretty good team. I would hope Ross would develop into a nice 6th man scoring off the bench. You lose a 1st in 2014 (we can trade this pick once the 2013 draft concludes) but you have a core in place.
