Tank for Wiggins campaign...
Whaddya think? Got any traction?
I don't mean tank on "purpose"... But turn the keys over to the core 4, play em 40 minutes a night. See what we truly have there. No minute absorbing veteran signings, no bs about winning now, which isn't going to happen next season anyway...
If the core 4 play well enough to get us to the playoffs, so be it. If not- we are in line for a superstar pick in a way better draft then this year. And if we don't blow our cap space, all the better. It could easily be like when we turned cap space and a good pick into Memo/Boozer/Williams.
I'll never be a fan of tanking, but we have to commit to our youth sooner or later, right? Let's throw them to the wolves and see what happens. Either someone becomes a legit star, or we get positioned to draft one.
Who's coming with me?

We had a discussion very similar to this a little while back:
viewtopic.php?f=33&t=1241422
One of the best points made in that thread (I think it was in that thread) is that many other teams will be outright tanking and it's going to be hard to out-tank them, even if you hand the keys over to the young guys.

I'm on board for this. Scouts already declaring him the highest ranked high school player since Lebron. That is a cause worth tanking for. Also, let's do it with a whole young core so we can be ready to dominate in a couple seasons. Be contenders rather than "playoff competitive" rubbish.

Idk if I believe they will outright tank. There have been many other sure fire prospects... Not many teams tank. Theres been a few, but not like you'd think. I think the unintentional tank puts us in play. And Wiggins isn't the only star material next year... its going to be a quality draft. Maybe one that even a top 5 pick changes your franchise fortunes.

You might be right. I mean, look at the 2002-2003 season. This was the season before the LeBron sweepstakes. At the time everyone thought LeBron was the huge prize (this has certainly proved true), but I don't think people counted on Wade, Melo and Bosh turning into the players they were.
In any case, Cleveland and Denver tanked hard and each finished with just 17 wins. Toronto was next with 24, followed by Miami with 25, the Clippers with 27 and Mamphis with 28. (Memphis's pick was owed to Detroit, who ended up getting the No. 2 pick).
So even in a year where there was every incentive to tank, the fourth-worst team still had 25 wins and a team who won 28 ended up with the 2nd overall pick (though it was conveyed to another team).

Interesting strategy for who gets this year's #1 pick:
http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/47986
Mike (Chicago)
None of the top teams in the draft are going to get a franchise player. So isn't the dream scenario to get Noel, let him rehab most of the year, and then get Wiggins, Parker or Randle next year to go with him?
Chad Ford
(1:15 PM)
Exactly. I actually think that's helping Noel's case with teams like Orlando and Charlotte. Going for the double-play.
Might be crowded at the bottom this year.

As a Canadian, and seeing the hype around this guy daily, im all in. I think Kansas was the pefect choice(too many all americans already going to Kentucky). If he keeps his head on straight and I know he is only 18 so anything can happen he does have Durant potential. He just needs to get in the gym and practice jumpers at every moment possible. i guess i dont mean tank......just play the kids and let the vets walk and do everything possible on draft night next year. including trading our firsts this year for futures

I think there are no chances to be worse then next season "charlandos". Lottery miracle is possible but I'm ok with other good top players on top of the draft.
It's time to jazz with Hayward and Favors!

Re: Tank for Wiggins campaign...
I am in.
"Tank", "let the young players play", call it whatever you want, as long as we have a shot at Wiggins
But I agree it will be very dificult to beat the usual suspects like Charlote Bobcats. Man, that franchise is terrible.

Re: Tank for Wiggins campaign...
Yes, this has been thrown around for awhile. Its hard to produce a Wiggins-caliber season out of the talent on this roster. We would have to be hit hard with injuries. Even if we get rid of all the vets, a fully healthy Hayward, Kanter and Favors core will guarantee you 30 wins, no matter how bad the surrounding players are....UNLESS we sign some ball hogging, turnover prone chuckers in the Keith McLeod mold to destroy team chemistry and limit the effectiveness of our good players. That is possible, but also unlikely.
And while Wiggins is, of course, the dream....he's not the only road to the promised land. Jabari Parker is actually more of a "Jazz guy" and is going to be a legit superstar in his own right, imo. Julius Randle is going to be a monster. I love Andrew Harrison and we have yet to see how Mario Hezonja turns out. Throw in Marcus Smart and possible development from Aaron Gordon, as well as the Guy Who Comes From Out of Nowhere and you're likely to have 5-7 really, really good players at the top of this draft. If we end up with a top 5 pick, I like our chances of getting a difference maker. If we get two solid players out of this years draft and then get a star next year to add to what we already have, that's a team that could contend.
Way too many ifs in there, of course. But we're not the Lakers, so that's what it takes.

I agree that there will be 5 franchise type players who COULD come out next year. You never know, though, some will likely choose to stay in.
Sign Tyreke Evans?
