I suppose Allen and his $3m salary does not have to be included, but I think he would be quality big man depth for Portland if they are looking to win now.

Hawes, L.Allen, Future 2nd
for
Freeland, #10

Philly
Holiday
Turner /J.Rich
#10
Young / Moultire / Freeland
#11 / Kwame
+#35, #42

Philly gets back to back picks at 10 and 11 and tanks for #1 in 2014.

Portland
Lillard
Matthews / Barton
Batum / Claver
LMA / L.Allen
Hawes / Leonard
+
#39, #40, #45

Portland tries for a win now center as opposed to the draft. Hawes provides decent passing, shooting rebounding and lots of size. 11/7 + 2 assists / 1.5 blocks in only 27 minutes last season in all 82 games.

TJ,

Hawes and Allen total up to roughly 9.5 mill, but they are both expiring. Freeland has this year and next year at 3 each. Rather pay the 9.5 and be done then save 6 for no purpose and then owe an extra 3 next year. Now, if there's a purpose to it then fine, but seeing as how CP3 or Dwight are not coming and I'm not interested in Josh or Millsap or Jefferson then who needs the extra cap room? Sixers are not near the tax and are already under the cap. And frankly, Hawes is not a salary dump, he has proven to be at least a serviceable center, and that has value. Maybe not to POR, but what would they know about centers anyway? Okay, cheap shot, I know...

Didn't realize Allen was expiring.. thought he had 2 more years.

And my point about his contract was basically supported by you.
What's the big deal in taking on $3m a year for two years if it's used to get an asset like the #10?
It seemed your major gripe was about Freeland and his contract, but you just said cap space wasn't a big deal.

A two year contract for less than $6m total is that much of a deterrent, even when sending out $12m+?

Sorry, I left out the most important part, the 10 pick is not a whole lot of enticement.

- If Hawes was put on the market, who else would offer a lottery pick, or even mid pick? Convince me Portland isn't overbuying the market for an expiring contract.

- If Olshey went after Hawes after neglecting him last year (if we had legit interest we would have let him know to wait until the Hibbert situation was resolved). Giving up a lottery pick would be admitting a pretty bad mistake - Paul Allen would ask Olshey why he tanked this year only to trade for a player that was available last off-season.

- Hawes is not the type of player that Portland really needs, it would be sinking assets into the wrong long-term player. Better to wait for the right guy than expend assets on the wrong guy.

- Even if we traded a lottery pick for Hawes, we would be negotiating with him next summer anyways. That is not an ideal situation for trading away a lottery pick.

Seems others think Hawes is a good fit.

Because he brings the rebounding and defense to complement Aldridge?

Who said he would be a good fit? Wiz said he would be on the offensive end. That is a KEY qualifying statement, because that side of the court is not our biggest concern. I think Wiz would be offended you characterized his post with a blanket statement.
