Actually if he comes back in december on a crappy Celtics team, and is unable to carry them to wins--teams might think twice about giving up that much for him. So this might be as close to selling high as Ainge can do.

I think everyone in the league knows the Celtics are doing a fire sale right now, and you can get their best players for pennies on the dollar. It's funny because we were told the new CBA was designed to stop teams from doing this, but lo and behold. Celtics are about to be bad for a really long time. It's one thing if a team like the Lakers did this because they can always reload in free agency. But the Celtics are a team that has to build through the draft and trades. And Ainge is giving away all of his assets so he can draft a bunch of rookies. Those teams usually take, even when they are good 4-5 years just to make the playoffs. Think about how long it was before KD, Westbrook, and Harden put it together--and it's doubtful the Celtics will draft even that well.

Ainge is destroying the Celtics ability to be competitive for a long time. Kind of sad. Even though I hated the Celtics, it's sad that they're no longer going to be there as a rival. Playing playoff games in the TD Waterhouse was amazing.

As for Houston getting Rondo...that seems like a really bad idea. They should be looking for a stretch 4 for that money like LMA. Harden needs the ball in his hands to be effective. Rondo is useless as an off the ball player. Teams are going to cheat off of him when Harden has the ball which is going to make their spacing more difficult in the halfcourt.

A team that should be busting themselves to get Rondo though is the Indiana Pacers. Granger and all of the picks that Boston wants. Hell, if you're really having a come to jesus moment--Paul George. You could keep Granger and go Rondo, Stephenson, Granger, West, Hibbert--that is a nasty starting five on both sides of the ball.

Pretty much, maybe Novak and Copeland as well but they're going to lose Copeland to FA.

Knicks don't have any trading assets.

Copeland is 2 yrs older than Rondo. I hardly think he's a young rebuilding asset when he will be 30yrs old this coming season.

Rondo for Granger is interesting, but what about Jeff Green?

In order for Indy to acquire Rondo we'd have to trade salary that extends beyond 2013.

GHill/ Green/ Plumlee/ 2- 1sts

for

Rondo

They would want lotto picks for Rondo. Knicks don't have lotto picks, especially since it's so easy to make the playoffs in the East. Besides, the Knicks still owe a pick obligation to Denver from the Melo trade. And the Knicks cleared out a bunch of future 2nd round picks and draft rights last summer in a flurry of sign-and-trades right before the CBA apron restrictions clamped down.

If the Celtics are looking to rebuild with lotto picks, the Knicks don't have anything worthwhile.

Also if Ainge is trying to stockpile lotto picks why is he trading with eastern conference teams where the margin between lotto and playoffs is so thin?

He should be making trades with the bottom tier Western Conference teams. Even if those teams win 50 games they're probably not making the playoffs. Phillies JRue Holiday trade is basically the trade that Ainge should have made with Rondo, right?

The ideal trade partner for Boston would be a team that's looking to transition from rebuild to win now & still has some young pieces that won't reach their potential in time to make a difference. Can't be an established contender because the 2014 1st is probably the most important piece in the package for Boston.
