I don't think people are really understanding how fundamentally broken the Bobcats were last year. Without bigs in general (because we really didn't have any at all), you can't play offense and you can't play defense - and it was reflected in the fact that almost all of our 'efficient' offense came when we ran and our defense only worked when forcing turnovers. That defense though was constantly on its heels because of how inept the offense was. Now, when you talk about adding bigs of any quality you're finally balancing the teams dynamics. An example is how much differently the team played and responded after McRoberts got into the rotation. If we add Al, we're not just adding 18/9, we're stabilizing the team finally and we'd no longer be a revolving door on both ends of the court.

Al and Zeller, if healthy, get us to 30-35 wins imo.

*Edit: Also, Utah fans can confirm that Jefferson's defense was much improved from his time in Minnesota along with his blackhole tendencies. Just throwing it out there.

30 wins in 2013 would have us picking 9. Considering all the teams tanking for Wiggins, 30 wins in 2014 would probably have us picking outside the top 10 (and losing the pick to the Bulls).

Therefore, I want a little layer of Mayo added to the bread.

There is no point in signing Mayo at all.

Once his legendary hotstreak to start the season ended, he didn't just revert to the norm - he fell off a cliff. Also, with Dirk back he showed that he has no idea how to basketball other than chuck. With Henderson, there's not point in adding him.

I only want Henderson back on a role player salary. He shot 33% from 3 and Charlotte finished 27th in 3 point makes and %. He doesn't really help that area, so I hope the team doesn't marry themselves to that guy on a starter contract. We need a constant 3 pt threat in the starting lineup and even Cho admitted so himself in acknowledging perimeter shooting as a primary need before the draft.

Henderson's shot improved a lot but I'm not really trying to get into that quite yet...

The thing I'm getting at again is that people really aren't grasping the complete effect of not having bigs on a team in any capacity. When an entire team's offense starts from 16-18 ft out without any threat of going inside through means other than dribble penetration they're handicapped in a multitude of ways. One of those being consistently forced into bad shots on the perimeter and having counter productive ball movement.

I'm not saying that Henderson is an above average shooter by any means. I am saying that our 3pt shooting as a whole will make a significant jump once 3-4 defenders no longer have the ability of completely shutting down our offense for 24 seconds because we trotted out a fundamentally broken lineup for 48 minutes a game.

There's no need to (over) invest money in a streaky shooter to provide some help to our outside shooting when adding bigs will have the same effect, if not a greater one, on the shot quality and ball movement of the team overall. Its redundant in this stage of our development - with or without Jefferson.

Al Jeffersons are available every single year. you get that guy to put you over the top. we arent at the point where our young core is ready to be put over the top. we still need to get it set up. if we're good enough to pick 10 next year on the virtue of our current young players id be totally fine with that. that would be more positive to me than picking 15th because we added Al Jefferson

Jefferson isn't the type who puts a team over the top by himself. He operates as a stud within a team attack. That's why I don't get the argument that signing Jefferson would make the Bobcats too good right now. They likely would still be a 24-30 win team.

Just for comparison, the lottery winners since 2005 have an average win total of 27 games. Since 1990, the team with the worst record has won the lottery twice.

Just don't overpay Jefferson or a player like him (Smith, Bynum). They can't let the tank card get in the way of making improvements to the team right now. At least show that you're trying. That's all fans want to see.

if signing Jefferson for 5 digits only takes us from 21 wins to 24-30 wins what the hell is the point?

I love how we wait until there is a really strong deep draft to end the tank....

He's probably getting 8 digits, but this is exactly how I feel.

That much money is reserved for people who can make a difference. We're talking about a guy who's defense is so bad that he's a net negative despite his advanced offensive game

Glad they are doing their due diligence. If he wants to come and the price is reasonable, so be it. Cho has to decide.

forget about 2014 for a minute....

what would be a reasonable contract for jefferson?

i assume he will want a 4 year deal (3 years would be ideal, imo).

if i am the cats, i would offer 4/40. surely jefferson and his agent will ask for 4/60. would you meet in the middle?
