fatlever wrote:seems awful quiet on the jefferson front. i would have thought we'd have some kind of news by now. something like:

july 3rd: charlotte - the bobcats brought in michael jordan, patrick ewing and mark price to try to convince jefferson to sign with the bobcats today. it is believed that jefferson is looking for a deal close to 60 million over 4 years, however the bobcats did not appear to be ready to offer that much money. it is unclear if the bobcats made a formal offer and if so, for how much. jefferson will visit a few more teams this weekend before making a decision on his future

Thats probably exactly what its going to sound like as well.

what twitter says about jefferson today

Charlotte ‏@CharlotteNC 14m

#CLT sports. RT @C_Monds910: Just seen Al Jefferson in CLT, he may be signing w/ the Bobcats… Way friendlier than JJ Reddick for the record

Chase Thomas ‏@chas3t 13m

I feel like the Al Jefferson situation in Charlotte is Cho (fighting to keep tanking) vs. Jordan (wants to start winning)

Sports Whispers ‏@SportsWhispers 12m

Al Jefferson and the #Bobcats are meeting today. Contract offer is coming

Matt ‏@MattyJ100 2h

I'm 75% sure I just saw Al Jefferson at Charlotte-Douglas

Was surprised to see Mayo and Milwaukee discussing a deal, would not be surprised now if we sign Big Al.

Each time I saw Jordan at a Bobcats game last season, he looked really pissed and discouraged, especially at the Bulls game I went to. I don't think he could handle another season like the past two years. He probably still believes in the rebuilding, but he wants to improve too.

if you were a big name free agent and you came to meet with the bobcats, would you be pissed if MJ didnt show up?

so i have to wonder if MJ is part of the presentation to lure jefferson.

We can only hope, I'd much rather have one of Wiggins, Randle, Parker, or Gordon to Jefferson.

SAME HERE. I feel like I'm starting to sound like a broken record here but Al Jefferson isn't worth us missing getting Wiggins Randle or Parker. People want to start winning now that's fine but would any of these people pass up on a potential Lebron James or Carmelo Anthony for Al Jefferson? Technically we've been in a 3 year rebuild so far, and it usually takes about 5 years in total to see some turn around, so we're making good time. Also, according to the report its Cho (for tanking another year) vs MJ (start winning) I'd 120% go with Cho. MJ has proven nothing in this league as an Owner, and every decision hes made, with the exception of hiring Cho, has led us from bad to worse. Theirs no way I would ever trust that man again with thinking he has the slightest idea of what hes doing.

Al Jefferson isn't going to keep the Bobcats from getting a good talent through the draft. The Bobcats are not guaranteed to get Wiggins, Parker, Randle or Gordon in the draft if they stink next year.

Did I miss something? When did Al Jefferson become a franchise player? I know the east got weaker, but I do not see Al taking us to the back of the lottery. (

How many other owners do you think FA's would be expecting to meet on their 1st visit?

If I am a FA I'd only be p*ssed if the GM or head coach wasn't there. Depending on how much stroke I had, I wouldn't mind meeting a player or two as well (Kemba and Haywood spring to mind - Hendo if he was under contract).

Edit: I'd also be p*ssed if Higgins WAS there.

Why would signing Jefferson automatically preclude us from landing one of those players?

Jefferson is a fantastic player, but he's not LeBron. He's not going to push us to 41+ wins by himself. He's just a vital piece moving forward.

Actually, if we tank out another year and finish last we're guaranteed a top 4 pick, so we'd get a shot at at least one of those guys (assuming they're still the top prospects a year from now). #nitpicking

I like him, and I agree with you he won't take us over the hump, but then why pay him like a player that will? Basically our options are...

(1) Suck, but position ourselves for a top five pick with loads of cap space.
(2) Sign Al, suck slightly less, end up in the 5-10 range with 20-25% of our cap space tied up into an aging center.

Probably not but he may push up out of the Top 10 and our pick to Chicago, I just think it is a risk we can't afford to take in this deep draft.

He could totally push us out of the top 10 thus forfeiting our pick to Chicago. Why take the chance when next years draft is so great? Why why why?

Because then, with the hopeful maturation of Kemba, MKG, Rex and (fingers crossed) Biz along with three potential lottery picks in renowned 2014 draft we would be really well positioned to launch into a top 4 seeding heading into the playoffs at the end of the 2014 season.

Its worth taking the chance on regardless. The only thing we know is if we fall to the 10th pick we lose it. How is Al Jefferson worth that? We lost alot of games by 10 points or less so what makes anyone think he can't make 10 points in a game? This is just silly to me..

If Al Jefferson was good enough to add 15+ wins to our team a season by himself we would be NUTS not to pursue him.

If that was the case in a years time when Kemba and co improved even more we would still be pushing for a top 4 seeding the year after.

We are not going to be that good and even if we were all we have to do is shut a key starter down when ever we get close to loosing our pick. You know like Portland did this year.
