Although we're not athletic at all...the only "athlete" we lost in the deal was Gerald Wallace, and we all know he wasn't that great in that department anyway...our roster right now is the same as last year's, except we have KG and Pierce instead of dead weight. We weren't athletic last year either, and we did pretty well in the regular season, and we didn't lose to the Bulls because of a lack of athleticism.

I think the best cure for defending transition teams is to be a lethal offensive team. And I think we will be. If you're making shots, it's hard for the other team to get out and run. So if we maximize our offensive potential, I really don't think our lack of athleticism is going to hurt us.

Also, we could adopt the same strategy that the Celtics and Spurs did, which led them to some amazing defenses...stop trying to crash the offensive glass and have 2-3 players immediately start running back once a shot goes up. That'll limit transition opportunities for opposing teams in a big way. This was the biggest reason why fast teams like the Warriors, Nuggets, Bucks, and Hawks killed us, imo. Evans and Blatche were SO obsessed with getting offensive rebounds that they were usually behind everyone else, which led to a fast break. Also, our team in general was undisciplined, and whenever a shot went up, after Evans tries to crash the glass, EVERYONE on our team just stands there and watches the ball, instead of getting back.

As far as defending perimeter stars goes...it's usually more dependent on team defense than the individual matchup. But JJ and Pierce are both solid man defenders, so I'm not that worried about it.

The only major concern for me from an overall standpoint is health. Because if our team stays healthy, I don't think there's ANYONE in the league that can make quick work of us. We'll take anybody to a hard-fought 6 games, minimum.

The best way to counter transition teams, especially Miami, is to limit your turnovers. TOs killed Indiana and made that top 2 defense of theirs vulnerable. We have the ball handlers on this team that Indiana doesn't, and with our improved spacing hopefully we can control the tempo of the game and slow down our opponents with efficient offense.

We should beat the tar out of Indiana, they do not match up well with us in the slightest.

Those are huge words to be saying for a team that hasn't even put a single minute in the floor yet. :-?
