So with Tyrus and Artest getting amnestied, I decided to look up how many players are still amnestiable (is that a word?). Sixteen teams have used the clause thus far, and if they don't use it this week they still have two more seasons to do so. That leaves 30 players on 13 teams that are still eligible (The Pelicans haven't used it, but don't have any eligible players left). Of those 12, I don't see Atlanta (Horford), Boston (Bradley's expiring, Rondo), Memphis (Conley, Randolph), San Antonio (Bonner's expiring, Parker) or Utah (Favors, Hayward) using it at all. Of the rest...

Chicago, Carlos Boozer: The obvious choice, he costs the team over $30m the next two years. (Other eligible players: Noah, Deng).

Detroit, Charlie Villanueva: He's an expiring, so it's possible they hold onto him; but they sure ain't gonna use it on Monroe. (Other eligible player: Monroe)

Miami, Mike Miller: All 6 of their eligible players have player options/ETOs next year, and as the most expensive non-big-3-er, Miller is the obvious choice. (Other eligible players: James, Wade, Bosh, Haslem, Anthony)

Milwaukee, Drew Gooden: They still have Gooden? Geez, get over it already. (Other eligible player: Sanders)

Oklahoma City, Kendrick Perkins: Obvious choice is obvious. Makes over $18m over the next two seasons, but they'll probably hang onto him as long as they don't have a better option at C. (Other eligible players: Durant, Sefolosha, Collison)

Sacramento, John Salmons: Apparently his next season salary isn't fully guaranteed, but still. (Other eligible player: Cousins)

Toronto, Push: Tough call IMO between Amir Johnson and Linas Kleiza. Johnson actually has a role and is a decent player, but costs $13.5m the next two years and Kleiza's $4.6m deal expires after this season. I suppose they could also elect to not use the clause.

So who goes next (possibly even this week)? Boozer's contract is an eyesore but I can see the Bulls keeping the band together for another year, so I'll say Gooden.

Alex Len underwent successful surgery on his right ankle on Friday.

The Phoenix Suns selected Len with the fifth overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.

“As a precautionary measure, our medical staff determined that it would be prudent to perform surgery on Alex Len’s right ankle at this time,” said Lon Babby. “That surgery was successfully completed this morning. As part of a routine evaluation, our medical team identified the very beginnings of a stress fracture in Alex’s right ankle even though Alex was entirely asymptomatic. We expect him to be available to begin the season.”

Thank God we didn't draft that guy.

Edit: This is his other ankle, so now hes having problems with both.

People forget the part where almost all of the the teams who had the cap space initially to sign him had already spent their money. I don't suspect the deal to be that shady. Just a veteran player chasing a ring and enjoying the opportunity to join a team owned by a owner of his nationality.

has any team had a worse summer than the mavs?

1. lose out on howard, paul and every other big free agent they were saving for
2. almost had iggy signed before he changed mind at last minute
3. spent 60 mil on their new backcourt of calderon and ellis, two awful defenders who cant play off the ball
4. 1st round draft pick breaks ankle in summer league

which former bobcat gets signed 1st? augustin, mullens, tyrus or diop

all proof to just how god awful that 2011-12 team was.

just two years removed from that season we could have half that team out of the league or at very least playing on min deals - add brown, white, higgins, najera (all out or close to out of league) and reggie on a small deal in houston.

Thomas has the best chance, followed by Byron and DJ as sort of a "2a" and "2b". Diop will have to wait for major injuries so he can fill in.

Thomas rumor Knicks http://www.nj.com/knicks/index.ssf/2013 ... _news.html

Mullens had that Laker one. And as his price tag continues to fall I could see it happening. They always look for cheap potential at the end of their bench.

DJs upside is hes 25. But I could see him be anything from a budget backup PG to D-League starter.

Diop is screwed. Personally speaking he should just take the money and retire.

The Wit & Wisdom of Dwight Howard

"It means a lot to me just to have a fresh start and have an opportunity to write my own story," Howard said. "I don't think people understood the fact that I got traded to L.A., and now I had a chance to really choose my own destiny, and this is the place where I chose and I'm happy about it."

Alex Len is having surgery on his other foot now? Suns can't catch a break.

Glad we passed on the cripple. He could potentially be walking with two walking boots. Wouldn't that be a sight!

Good thing we didn't try to pursue him. J.R. Smith's career may begin to unravel from this point on

Well, Gooden did get cut before the deadline today, but it was a few hours after Kleiza and Miller got the ax as well. So with two years left to use the amnesty provision, there are still 7 teams left that can still invoke the clause, and there are 11 players left that could fall victim.

Atlanta: Al Horford
Boston: Rajon Rondo
Chicago: Carlos Boozer, Joakim Noah
Memphis: Mike Conley, Zach Randolph
Oklahoma City: Nick Collison, Kevin Durant, Kendrick Perkins
Sacramento: John Salmons
San Antonio: Tony Parker

Obviously a lot of those guys aren't going anywhere (Horford, Rondo, Noah, Conley, Randolph, Durant, Parker), and if you couple that with the fact that OKC is unlikely to amnesty Collison so long as Perkins is on the roster, then there are really only three players left that are truly in danger of being waived via amnesty: Boozer, Perkins, and Salmons. Detroit and Utah join the Pelicans as teams who haven't used the clause, but no longer have any players they can use it on. Also, a bevy of players escape the clause due to their contracts expiring this year (most notably Villanueva).

EDIT: And after looking over Salmons' contract, I see only $1mil of his $7mil 2014 salary is guaranteed. So, they could either cut him, pay him $1mil with a cap hit of $1mil; or they could amnesty him, pay him the full $7mil but have no cap hit. I'm thinking they might go with the former, so the only likely amnesty-able players next year would be Boozer and Perkins. Alright, I'm done yapping about this until next year :D

Anyone have any idea as to where Brandon Jennings is going to end up? Seems like it would be awfully awkward for the Bucks to ask him to come back after trying to give Teague his job
Mike Malone was never given a fair chance in Sacramento, and Ranadive will soon come to regret that, when he's on top of the WC inevitably contending somewhere

How much is DJ hating life for turning down that 4 year extension?

As awkward as it will be, he'll have no choice but to return to Milwaukee on the QO. At least that's my guess. I can see them trading him midseason before he walk on them next summer though.
