Moving Forward With this Roster, What's Missing?

Post#1182 » by sweetcity » Wed Jul 17, 2013 4:57 pm

If we are moving forward with this core, what piece are we still missing? I say we still need better shooting to create spacing for JV and Gay.

2 more years of experience for Jonas, to cover up everything else.

But to more honestly answer your question, I think a 2-way PF with more offensive talent than Amir would push us into Indiana-territory. It took them time to grow too. Amir could then play a huge backup role as a 4/5. I also think we need to hope that Ross becomes a legimtimate 3+D threat and that we can somehow convince Derozan to become a 6th man and/or trade him for a Lou Williams-type of 6th man. Fields re-discovering his shot would cement it.

Their potential lies primarily on Casey being able to get them to buy into defence and them becoming a top 10 team defensively while simultaneously improving their offence by running more shots through Jonas for greater efficiency and less through Demar (Hence, why I'd prefer Ross in the starting lineup; he takes less long 2s). They seemingly gave up on the year quick last year. They lacked toughness and grit. If Casey could get them to buy into team defence and some of the things in the first paragraph happened, along with a good year from Jonas, we'd surprise many around the NBA.

Well that took all of 2 posts. Thanks DH.

The problem isnt whats missing, its how you can keep the core monetarily, while adding to it. The Novaks/Hansbroughs (strict role players) of the world arent enough IMO. So it really is dependent on the growth of young players.

If we're blowing it up I think Detroit is our best trading partner

To TOR: CV + Stuckey + Knight + Drummond OR Monroe (they can choose)
To DET: Gay + Lowry

Gay, Lowry & Smith are all good friends and it complements Detroits roster better. I think they make actually prefer to move Drummond (I'm talking about the FO as opposed to their fan base) because Monroe helps them win now but I'm fine with either. Lowry / KCP / Gay / Smith / Monroe.

I'd sell off Novak, Stuckey, CV into any picks that I could get.

My targets would be Wiggins, Parker & Smart (in that order) in the 2014 draft.

If Masai really wanted he could send a big offer sheet Bledsoes way and in 2014 assuming all plays out well we would be.

Bledsoe / Knight
Derozan / Ross
Wiggins or Parker / Fields
Drummond / Acy
Val / Amir

2 expiring vets that help now. A young big to add to the Scottie timeline
I'd prefer to keep Stew and give Monte Morris
I'd really prefer to keep Morris and Stew and give the great Killian Hayes and 2nd round picks

Not sure if this is a complete tank move really. Monroe and Knight are pretty nice young pieces. We may slightly regress, but not by that much.

Love that trade and after the season, evaluate the talent, coach and go from there, perfect tank move with some young pieces to develop

No way in hell are they trading Drummond for anything less than an all-star.

Paul Millsap would have been nice, especially at that salary and that 2 year window... If a sign and trade of some kind could have been worked out, or if we hadn't foolishly offered Derozan his contract extension in advance we probably could have put something together for Millsap actually.

Yea, if we're blowing it up, I think we need to pursue a deal with Detroit after the first month of the season. If they're struggling in November, they might look to deal Monroe for a better fit, and let Josh Smith play PF. Rudy would be a great fit with them. I would be happy with taking back just Monroe and their expiring's for Rudy and Lowry... let them keep Knight. We'd have a bad enough team for a high pick, and a Monroe/Valanciunas front court to build around.

Monroe / Stuckey / Villanueva

for

Gay / Lowry / A 2nd round pick (if they want it)
