We should be good there with Ariza and Webster and Beal and Porter and Temple and Rice Jr. That's more depth at the 2-3 than I can remember this team having since the late '70s.
I would feel a lot better about the roster if Ariza was swapped for a similar big. Unless a deal is made, it looks like the Wizards must be relying on Booker being healthy and Seraphin being productive. I think those a very faulty assumptions. Or even worse would be expecting anything significant from Vesely or Singleton. I could(and hope I am) wrong on those two, but I wouldn't say the likelihood is high enough to build a team around how you wish some of the young players would produce.
Well, the summer isn't over just yet and moves can be made up until the trade deadline.
Hey, if you want player development, you have to give these players some window to step up.
They played two years ago when the team sucked. Now they added vets to help Wall and Beal so last season they had the bar really raised on them. This is their first off season to adjust and we are early in the off season. All we got was some summer ball for Ves and Singleton. We haven't seen or heard anything about Kevin or Booker.
All that said, I don't see Ves, Kevin or Singleton getting good enough quick enough to be the level of player I would like to see coming off the bench. I could see one or more doing well enough to give us some confidence that they are getting better but that's the baseline of what they need to prove. Ultimately, we need them to show they are legit reliable quality bench players that belong on a good team. That a tier above what any of them can probably prove over the summer.
Kevin and Ves would really have to beast in Uro ball to give us that kind of a feeling. For Kevin, he will need to grab a of boards and make more moves toward the basket where he draws fouls.
With most of their scoring coming from Wall, Beal and Webster and Wall in range to become as beast where he get 10 FTA a game, they might have a little more time to evaluate those other players because Wall should be able to carry the team. And with Maynor as the back up PG, he should be able to help those players get easier looks.
Its not ideal or a finished puzzle, but for where they are in the rebuild, they could just go into the season with all 4 of them and see how they do. It makes sense as an option. But there are other viable options as well.
The Wizards aren't in the building stage of a Brooklyn or Houston just yet.
