Biggest takeaway of the game - certain aspects of Val's offensive game have regressed during the year, according to the NT coach. Feels like a negative comment on random Raptors offense last year, of course, and Casey's inability to utilize Val on offense and develop him, especially playing 2 against 2 crap, including pick and roll.

His previous team had a crappy offense as well. Raptors at least had guards who can pass the ball inside.
He isn't used to rolling right now, is slightly off sync I thought.

Did he really say that? Jonas was 4/5 and as per usual couldn't be stopped in the post. Maybe this coach wants him to play that soft euro big man pick and roll game I guess.

What?
I guess he meant like a stretch 4/5?

Jonas mostly scored on iso plays (and garbage points). That's the difference between the NBA and Euro ball... the latter is far more a team game (moving away from the ball and getting open).
The spacing is not the same so players can't operate in international play as they do in the NBA. This is one reason why the gap between the US & World has narrowed.

Yeah, I think coach meant pick'n'roll play because in Raptors guards pretty much never played pick'n'roll with Jonas so that skill went into regression thanks to awesome Raptors guards passing on rolls and Casey's schemes.

Don't really understand why did they choose to play in that arena.
There are plenty of better venues in LTU right now..
Anyway, team game was really bad yesterday, random basketball as I call it.
As for Jonas, he was quite good I thought, already a huge presence when he is on the floor.
Shame that his FT shooting was off, would have been a nice stat line, 16/11 or so

Re: JV at EuroBasket 2013 (vs Sweden 12:15PM ET August 12th)
seems he missed his first 4 FTs and then went 4/5 from the field and 4/5 the line the rest of the game. apart from that rusty start a typical Jonas line: 12 points on 5 field goals attempts.
I would argue that the play at 0:30 or so in the highlights above, where he hits that little baseline jumper from maybe 10-12 feet out, is in a sense the key to our season. Because he can hit (and get off) that little jumper so consistently it means opposing Cs will have to play him tight, giving him that much more opportunity to take them in the post and draw fouls. The effectiveness of that jumper, combined with his ability to finish at the rim and hit his free throws means he is going to get aggressively doubled more and more. Which should give our wings and long-bombers a lot of open shots so long as we move the ball.
If I was Casey I'd pretty much go to Jonas in that low post spot all game long and just let the defense choose its poison. If Gay and Demar and Lowry and Novak and Amir can't take advantage of the double-teams Jonas is going to generate then they shouldn't be on the team.
Of course, for this all to happen it will require to run his offense through Jonas at least some - if not most of the time. Will he? It couldn't be any more obvious that it's the right thing to do, but with Casey that means little...

Kleiza is a complete hot head. Belgians are the calm breed, good they dint had their own Kleiza, this could have been ugly.
