I don't see that ever happening.

MLS has a goal of being one of the top leagues in the world. It will take time, but they are getting better every year. By 2030 or so I think MLS will be easily in the top 4 to 8 teams.

Not really, I know it will take time.

I also know though that the American market always wants the best. They will strive every year to increase the salary cap to make a better league. MLS is years behind most leagues in the world, it will take time to catch up, but someday in the future MLS will be considered one of the very top leagues worldwide.

Can't wait for tonight's game!

TFC needs to win this tournament, I hope Montreal decides to take the games off and focus on MLS.

Why can't TFC play like this all the time?

TFC signed Argentine midfielder Matias Laba today. Sounds like a good move, although I know very little about him. He did play for Argentina in the 2011 U20 World Cup.

I'm glad that the Kevin Davies signing fell through, too old and not the type of player that we need.

Any fans wondering if the new hire at MLSE might mean we'll take a run at Frank Lampard after this season?

He was rumored to be in contact with him as a Beckham replacement for LA. I'd be thrilled to have Frank on TFC. As Chelsea fan I would love to watch him in person for some games before he hangs them up.

This hire could be huge for TFC. Look what he did for LA!

Park Ji-Sung a target of Toronto FC and Vancouver Whitecaps?

Could we be set for a Canadian tug-of-war for Queens Park Rangers midfielder Ji-Sung Park?

The former South Korean international is rumored to be leaving QPR after the English Premier League club suffered relegation and MLS continues to be the speculated destination for the 32-year-old.

The Daily Mail says there are "a number of MLS clubs keen on the midfielder. Among those are Toronto FC, who are managed by former Rangers defender Ryan Nelsen."

What's interesting is that another former teammate of Park on the South Korean national team, Vancouver Whitecaps right back Young-Pyo Lee, was asked about whether he's also been trying to recruit the EPL man to the other side of Canada.

"Last week I was talking with Ji-Sung Park actually," Lee told The Province back in February. "If I can, I will bring another good Korean player. Must be much better than me."

Park has 18 appearances with QPR thus far in the 2012-2013 season, his first campaign with the club after a seven-year career at EPL giants Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Park may not be the only player for which the Whitecaps and TFC may be jockeying. Reports also have the two MLS clubs as the frontrunners for English winger Jermaine Pennant.

The MLS primary transfer window closes May 6 and the secondary window opens on July 9. But the windows wouldn't be a requirement depending on when the player is released from his contract, as the reports in England intimate.

Diego Forlan to Toronto FC?

Toronto FC had little to say Monday in the wake of a story that Uruguayan star striker Diego Forlan was headed to the MLS club.

"Nothing to report," was the official response.

The Globe and Mail, however, said an announcement could come as early as Tuesday when the international transfer window reopens. The Washington Post reported last week that Toronto seemed in the front of the MLS queue to sign Forlan from Brazil's Internacional.

The Uruguayan, who previously played for Independiente, Manchester United, Villarreal and Atletico Madrid, won the Golden Boot at the 2010 World Cup as the tournament's leading scorer.

Forlan's agent, in a Brazilian publication, seemed to suggest that the striker was happy to stay where he was until after the 2014 World Cup.

Other reports had the player himself saying, while he was interested in playing in the U.S. and the Middle East, he was happy where he was with a contract that runs for another two years.

But where there's smoke, there's fire.

Forlan has been linked to Major League Soccer since May when reports carried on the league's own website quoted the striker as saying: "I like the MLS a lot. I have gone there on holiday a lot. I would love to go."

Looks like he denied the TFC move

http://www.ctvnews.ca/sports/uruguayan- ... -1.1358139

Toronto FC fans hoping to see another dismal season turn around with the addition of Uruguayan soccer star Diego Forlan may be out of luck for now, after the striker denied reports he was signing with the Canadian club.
Rumours swirled over the past week that Toronto’s team – struggling with the second-worst record in Major League Soccer – would nab Forlan from his Brazilian club Sport Club Internacional early this week when the league’s international transfer window opens.
Unfortunately the whistle was blown a bit prematurely.

“I said I would like to play in the United States, also in the Middle East,” he told reporters on Monday, dispelling the rumors.
“But I have a contract here for another two years. I’m very happy here and I have a contract. Today you know, there are so many websites on the Internet to see if the source is right or not,” he continued.
The Washington Post originally published a story last week claiming the team was set to sign Forlan to their roster. Reports continued as late as Sunday by The Globe and Mail, also stating Forlan would join the Reds.
However, it doesn’t seem like Forlan has plans on going anywhere.
“But I would like to stay at Inter, until not only the (2014) World Cup, but until the end of the contract,” he added.
Forlan was awarded the 2010 World Cup Golden Ball after scoring five goals and leading Uruguay to the semi-finals – the furthest the country has progressed in the international tournament since 1970.

The 34-year-old also made headlines last month at the Confederations Cup when he became the first player to make 100 international appearances for Uruguay.
Bringing big names to soccer clubs is not foreign to Tim Leiweke, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment’s new CEO. Prior to taking over in Toronto, he ran the show for the LA Galaxy and famously signed soccer stars David Beckham and Robbie Keane to the squad. Leiweke has made it his priority to turn Toronto FC around and shake things up with the addition of big names who will make an even bigger difference on the field.
Even without Forlan, TFC has recently welcomed a new addition to the team. Toronto acquired midfielder Michael Thomas from Sporting Kansas City on July 2 in exchange for a second round draft pick in the 2015 draft.
Besides holding the second-worst record in the league, Toronto FC is currently in second-last place in the eastern conference and is 13 points away from making this year’s playoffs. The team has never made the playoffs.
The MLS’ secondary international transfer window opens July 9 and runs through August 8.

Toronto FC parts ways with president/GM Kevin Payne

Only nine months after he was brought in to revamp a moribund squad, Toronto FC has parted ways with president and GM Kevin Payne.

MLSE chose to take the Brian Burke/Bryan Colangelo route in doing so. Payne will remain on to assist with a transition but do so without title.

This is part of a larger sweep of the executive suites that will continue with announcements as early as Thursday.

“I’m disappointed, but this is the way this business works,” Payne said Wednesday. He will remain in Toronto for the month before returning to his home in Washington, D.C.

“I’m going to help the team through a transition period. I don’t want to — I won’t — turn my back on this club.”

Ironically, the only sure survivor of the purge is coach Ryan Nelsen, whose shambolic arrival signaled the first warning sign of Payne’s regime. Nelsen was announced as Toronto FC coach while still under contract as a player to Premiership club Queens Park Rangers.

It was an odd start for a pair of old friends. By the time it ended, the two were at odds. Only one would survive the tension.

Frings Farewell game

Post#758 » by postup » Sun Sep 8, 2013 12:55 am

Torsten Frings played his farewell game in Bremen today in a match featuring Bremen All-Stars vs Frings' Friends, which included F-1 legend Michael Schumacher. A fun affair by all accounts and one of the gifts he got was a jersey made up of all his clubs' jerseys, including TFC.

Scroll down on the the link above for pics. Click on "nächstes Bild" in bottom right corner of slideshow. I'm too lazy to translate or upload and link separate pics.

He scored three goals himself and the fans went nuts for him. At the end of the game he was led off the pitch by his daughters.

By far my most favourite FC player ever.

Let's just hope MLSE doesn't go through with the idea of using BMO for both TFC and the Argos. Putting turf in, and possibly having football lines all over the field would be stupid.
