you think the upgrade in dengs defense is worth 6 million dollars a year?

you think he'd be an equal defender in the nuggets system as compared to karls and have the same impact?
you think chandler would be an equal defender in thibodeau's system as compared to karls?

honestly don't know much about mirotic.
but i do know a couple things...
1) there's plenty of european players that are predicted to do great things in the nba and never live up to it because of the difference in style, speed of play, strength of players...etc. in fact that list is quite a bit longer than the guys that have come over and had long careers as above-average nba players, much less star players.
2) you've always been super-high on obscure overseas players and want to trade the world for them, so we've all grown to not trust it.

If you are going to compare defenses you might as well as discuss what Deng could do in the run and gun offense we had here. I like Wilson Chandler. Deng is a significant upgrade. For 12 million a year I prefer Deng to Iggy.

Then how on earth do you evaluate this trade proposal??

Based on what I've seen I'm resigned to think the FO is looking to move Faried. If that's the case Mirotic would be a fantastic pick-up.

we're not comparing iguodala to deng. although i'd say iguodalas the better defender, with a far more well rounded game. neither can shoot, but at least iggy will get you a couple assists.

i don't think deng's a run and gun player. he's just not that offensively athletic to be running up and down the court attacking the rim as a finisher or off the dribble. he's a halfcourt system player with a solid midrange jumpshot.

and the point still stands that the upgrade from chandlers defense to dengs defense isn't worth 6 million a season to me.

because i know that the guys who do the scouting reports and spend all their time watching euro ball aren't flawless in their predictions. far from in. and on a risk vs. reward scale, for chandler & faried, i don't want to take a flyer on an overpaid SF and a potential future darko/bargnani.

Despite this offensive explosion, I remain a bit sanguine about his NBA prospects. Unfortunately, Mirotic also looked the part of a Euro small forward on defense and the boards in this game. His help and pick and roll defense was pretty much nonexistent, despite what I'd heard about him being a good team defender. He also did not look great closing out on shooters. Even worse was his rebounding, as a Barcelona frontcourt lacking any NBA athletes inflicted several depressing stretches of volleyball on the offensive glass while Mirotic stood by helplessly. He pulled down only two rebounds in his 17 minutes, although his pace-adjusted per 40 numbers in the ACB and Euroleague were respectable at about 9 per 40 minutes combined and a little under 3 offensive boards per game. Perhaps I caught him on a bad night, but defensively he looked like Matt Bonner out there on Friday.
...
Mirotic reminds me more of a less athletic version of the Orlando Magic era Rashard Lewis.

sounds great.

Over the course of a season you'll find most scouts consider Mirotic to be a good team defender. A decent comp is Ryan Anderson.
