''I'm going to do my best to be back for opening night,'' Jefferson said before the Bobcats played the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday night. ''I'm going to take it one day at a time and go through the process. I've sprained my ankle so many times, I just know how it goes.

a sprained ankle never completely heals, i sprained my ankle about 8-9 months ago and it still hurts a little sometimes (got landed on battling for a rebound in basketball) but he is getting pro medical staff help so he will be fine and his game is low to the ground so it probably wont affect him much

I've had three or four severe sprains (the ones where you can't walk and your ankle blows up to about twice its normal size and stays like that for weeks and yes they usually come from bad landings off rebounds in my case) and those really suck, they knock you out for a month or more. The worst part is the tweaks and minor sprains that occur repeatedly for months and even years after. I still get the minor injuries in both ankles like Steph Curry and the last time I had a bad sprain was in 2011 almost two years ago, so no they really don't heal for a really really long. I hope it's not a major one for Al.

Disagree on it not hurting his game too much. He's kinda slow as it is. If he gets much slower, and his footwork drops as a result of the injury, then yes it's a problem.

Relieved it's just a sprain, thought he broke his face with the way people were acting! Hopefully comes back strong and recovers well. However, there's always a positive in every negative...WIGGINS!

Robin Lopez last night 6/11 for 13 pts 13 rebs in 28 mins for POR. That's who I wanted us to sign this summer. 1/2 the price twice the energy, team oriented. Wish we had signed RLo over Big Al.

forget the fact he wasn't even a free agent. granted Portland didn't trade jack for him- i would've liked him, but not as much as Big Al. Doesn't have half the impact on offense.

I saw Big Al today at a Bobcat autograph signing and he looked fine. He walked with no limp or boot. He said he was "good".

Rick Bonnell ‏@rick_bonnell 32m

Al Jefferson said his ankle is doing great. Has been doing some walk- throughs to stay familiar with plays. Says good to go for opener

Great news.

Rick Bonnell ‏@rick_bonnell 12m

Al Jefferson (ankle) is getting more physical activity each day. The goal is for him to practice at least once full-speed before opener.

Rick Bonnell ‏@rick_bonnell 12m

Clifford on Al: "It will be hard for him if he doesn't (practice). He didn't miss a week, he's played one game and a quarter.''

Rick Bonnell ‏@rick_bonnell 11m

Other issue on Jefferson will be how much he can play, as far as sustained minutes, once he's back. Bobcats play 3 games in 1st 4 days.

That's how Jefferson opens the floor.

Get used to seeing this. We haven't had anything like Jefferson in our 9-year franchise history.

But I am worried about how Jefferson fits this team. I know he was brought in to get doubled teamed to open the floor and improve spacing for shooters, but the roster around him doesn't seem built for that. We haven't surrounded him with shooters. The offense has looked better with him out because ball movement has been there. Al Jeff might hold the ball and clog the lane preventing MKG, Hendo, Ramon from cutting and marginalizing the facilitation by McBob and Zeller. Also, he was supposed to bring PnRs to the team, but our guards aren't looking for the roll man. Maybe just not the right fit? Hoping this does not happen but that's what worries me.

I somewhat shared your same concern until I thought about it. Jefferson doesn't clog the paint anymore than Biz and Haywood did last year. If anything, he spreads the floor since he has the ability to hit the little 15 foot jumper. I almost got into that way of thinking as if we were better without him just because we started playing better but we might've just been rusty trying to get the kinks out with him. It was just one full game that we played with Jefferson afterall. The only thing that bothered me was that we wasted so much of the shotclock trying to force the ball to Jefferson in the post. Either the plays weren't good enough to get him good position on the block or our guards don't know how to make a entry pass.

If that's the starting lineup, those threes won't be going down.

Team needs shooters in the worst way.

Actually, in the pic that may very well be one of, if not the best shooting lineup the Bobcats have to offer with Kemba Walker, Ben Gordon, Jeff Taylor, & Cody Zeller on the floor with Al Jefferson. The only way I could see it being better is if you replace Zeller with Josh McRoberts

On the long term, I think zeller will be a better shooter than McBocat...
