^^ So what are some other 4s (considering that Anthony is a stretch 4) rated that the Wizards could conceivably get that are rated at or above 150?

Dunno. Don't feel like looking. :)

The point is do you pay max money to a four who's overrated, brutally expensive and turns 30? I wouldn't.

Oh man, Carmelo would be a train wreck. Whatever "rebuilding" is going on here would be over. He's one of the players I'd least want on my team if I were an NBA GM.

Exactly, pass on Melo and wait for Durant.

What's with all this Durant stuff? What makes anyone think he'll ever play here?

The stuff Hands quotes with such enthusiasm meant nothing. Someone asked him whether if he weren't with OKC would he enjoy playing in his home town.

What do you think would be his likely answer to that? "Nah, I hate my family and friends"? Anyone asked a question like that answers "Sure, that'd be cool." It means absolutely nothing.

How does that mean nothing?

If we have capspace and we're a winning team, why wouldn't he consider coming here?

OKC's management hasn't exactly endeared themselves to Durant. He was reportedly unhappy about their lack of moves in the offseason. Their ownership is extremely stingy and hasn't made great roster moves, they continue to allow Scott Brooks to coach the team, etc

I think Durant is a really loyal guy (almost to a fault), but I don't see why he wouldn't consider his hometown at all as a possible FA destination.

Agree. We need a power forward and a center.

What would give you a different idea, Hands? I mean, obviously we'd love to have Kevin Durant on our team. Every GM, coach, player and fan would love to have him, duh! You think the fact that he was born here gives us an advantage? If so, isn't that kind of pie in the sky of you? I should be the one

Well we covered what we know in its own thread. No sense in going over it all again here. There is enough there to keep it a longer term goal worth talking about and I would plan accordingly. Even long shoots have to be planned for, even if they don't work out. Gotta plan to win cuz if we aren't in a position to make a deal, then you know it can't happen.

First things first, the team needs to keep developing and by that we are talking mostly about Wall and Beal first and foremost. If they show really well this year, that makes a future KD deal more viable.

Next big move I think they should make is a let vet talent on a 2-3 year contract. If for 3, they have to be a movable player in that year. That would be if we do a deal around the trade deadline. KD is an UFA in 2016 which is 2 years after this season.

They want to avoid max contracts that would be hard to move. That doesn't mean all max contracts mind you but they have to be very careful.

I still like the idea of a Dirk on a 2 year contract for 10-12M verse a Melo at 20M. Getting Dirk would be more like a PP or KG type play. A HOF type on the decline is a better value play and keeps the door open. And Dirk has won a title as a center piece. That mental experience is very valuable when it come with a player that 7-0 and can nail 3 pts. He doesn't jump to begin with so him slowing down shouldn't affect his shooting much.

Monroe is real interesting. He was one of a small list of players I wanted them to keep on eye on to add. I could see Monroe getting it done late in the playoffs. Just has a nice all around game and what lots like mental toughness. I don't think he will shrink on the bigger stage.

This would be a disaster. I don't want Melo anywhere near our team, except when we're kickin his a** on the court ! Much rather aim for Monroe and if we cant get him than someone much less expensive like Derrick Williams. If no Monroe than save the BIG move for '16 w/Durant :)

Just wanted to throw this out there... we could theoretically sign Monroe to a max contract with our cap space, then do a sign and trade with the Knicks for Melo, giving up a combination of draft picks, as well as Nene and probably Webster or Porter.

Wall/Maynor
Beal/Rice
Webster/Porter
Anthony
Monroe

Just sayyyyin'.
