Nice knock down by Martinez. Garcia didn't look too hurt there though.

Re: Boxing Thread 4.0
Vic is one of my favorite fighters.... flawed as he is... he always makes good fight and I think really exposed something in Donaire. He really isn't an fighter that is cut above everyone else. I thought it was stupid that some had him number 3 lb for lb with the fighters that he fought. I think he gets KO'ed by Gonzalez, Mares, Deleon, Salido, and Lomachenko at featherweight with how he fought tonight... and gets shamed once more vs Rigo in a rematch.

Re: Boxing Thread 4.0
- Not sure what that one judge who scored it for Martirosyan was watching, that was clearly an Andrade victory. Outside of the knockdown of Andrade in the 1st, Martirosyan didn't really do anything.
- Surprised that Donaire seemed to have a bit of a struggle with Darchinyan. Vic was landing that left at a good rate, Donaire was very susceptible punch. That certainly doesn't bode well if he's aiming to fight Rigondeaux again. Donaire, however, showed why he was hyped up for years in the 9th round when he finished off Darchinyan. He's got game changing power, especially with that left hook. I enjoyed the fight, not a ton of shots thrown but these guys threw them with bad intentions.
- Martinez wasn't doing too bad early(had him winning the first 2 rounds, which included the rd. 2 KD) but it was basically all Garcia after that. Round 6 onward, Garcia was just systematically breaking down Martinez. What a left hook body shot by Garcia to finish off the fight in the 8th.

Re: Boxing Thread 4.0
That's a bit of an overreaction based off this performance, and this is coming from someone that wasn't impressed at all by Donaire tonight. Vic fought a very disciplined fight and was patient in setting up his straight left. But he finally got caught and Donaire put him away after he hurt him.
All those fights you mentioned are a toss up and I still give Donaire a good shot at beating everyone except for Rigo. Especially with the power he still carries in both hands, in particular that left hook.
Is Donaire still a top 10 pound for pound fighter? Based of his last two performances, no. But that doesn't mean he still isn't a world class fighter.

Me too. Donaire looked timid in there. That Rigo fight took something out of him from a mental standpoint. You could see it in his body language and it was apparent in his pre-fight conversations with the HBO crew. But he showed his quality when he finally KO'ed Darchinyan. Sometimes, that's all a fighter needs in order to regain his confidence.
I still give him a great shot of beating the elite of his division except for Rigo, who's on another planet skill wise than anyone else. That game changing punching power is still there. Most importantly, the killer instinct is sill there too.
But props to Vic tonight. He showed he's still a player. He just needs to move back down in weight and take this L like a man.

British contender Martin Murray (25-1-1, 11KOs) indicates that he reached an agreement to face WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (28-0, 25KOs) on February 1 in Monte Carlo. Murray will first stay sharp with a keep-busy fight on November 23rd on the Froch-Groves undercard in Mancherster.
It will be Murray's third shot at a title, with going to a controversial draw decision with Felix Sturm in 2011 and then losing a close decision to Sergio Martinez in April. According to Daily Mail, Murray is expected to earn around $500,000 (£312,000) for the shot.
Golovkin has been unable to face Murray in the United States, due to Murray's inability to obtain a visa. Murray had been scheduled to face Garth Wood on December 11th, but the fight was canceled a few days ago. Golovkin has a huge 2013 - with knockout wins over Nobuhiro Ishida, Curtis Stevens, Gabe Rosado and Matthew Macklin.

People really can't complain about the level of competition that GGG has been facing lately. Macklin, Stevens and Murray are all considered top 10 quality middle weights. Even Rosado(who just gave Qullin all he could handle) is a good fighter.
If he beats Murray, I'd like to see him fight Barker, followed by Martinez.

Murray/Golovkin is a good fight to make, especially when you consider the fact that the majority feel that Murray beat Sergio Martinez back in April.

Apparently, they are not fighting each other. They are just on the same card in Monaco.

Re: Boxing Thread 4.0
I'll never understand why fighters force themselves to fight in a certain division when they struggle badly to make weight for it. You see it all the time in the sport. Afterwards, these guys start bloating up almost two full weight classes above what they're fighting.

Well, coming from a guy that was away for over a year, that's as good as what you want to see if you're a fan of Andre Ward.

Total domination by Ward. 12-0, shutout. Rodriguez, to his credit, took some very good shots and stood up to them but the difference in class between the 2 fighters was clear from the opening bell.

Re: Boxing Thread 4.0
He didn't miss a beat. Rodriguez was outclassed right from the get go. Honestly, I don't have interest in watching him fight anymore of these pretenders at 168. I want to see him either meet Kovalev or Stevenson at 175 or a catch weight in between. Actually if there's one pretender I want to see him beat up it's JCCJ. I would actually enjoy watching that spoiled brat getting his ass handed to him by Ward. Ward could make a lot of money in the process too.

I think that's the fight Ward truly wants next. However, Chavez isn't fighting until March, I believe. Might have to take a tune-up or maybe it just doesn't matter. Ward is at that level.

Re: Boxing Thread 4.0
Horrible stoppage by the ref in the Froch-Groves fight in the 9th round. Groves was hurt, yes, but not to the point where a stoppage was needed. Froch really struggled tonight and was clearly losing the fight at the time of the stoppage.

Caught the ending of Froch-Groves. That's as bad a stoppage as you'll see.
