POTG - John Wall
Runner up: Gortat 17 boards and Webster 5-10 from 3 and guarded Melo all game.
Honorable mention. Randy for getting through the rotations better.
Teams gets a much deserved 3 day break. Beals 3 ball should be there when they return once his legs get some rest.

Re: GT #13: Knicks @ Wizards 7 PM CSN
I'm going to harp on this every game but we can't continue like this. Maynor needs to be benched and we need some player, any competent PG on a 10 day contract who can run an offense and hit an occasional shot or two.
I don't believe our bench is that bad. We have alot of guys who can't create their own shot. Getting Al and Ariza back will help but watching Trevor trying to create his own shot is like watching a train wreck in slow motion. We can't have Wall playing nearly 40 minutes a night. Ernie needs to swallow the fact that he cut a giant raw fart in the middle of a crowded room and get another PG.

Why not just give Temple the PG duties for 10 mpg?

Yup -- they are starting to look more like the 44-game winning team that I (among others) projected. Above all, Wall had another good game (would have been a 2d in a row great game had it not been for 7 TOs, but still...).
And Gortat! What a game he had! If he settles in, we are in good shape to make the playoffs -- and maybe even not face Miami or the Pacers in the first round.
edit to note that in the last 10 games, only 4 teams in the East have better records than we do. I already feel some confidence that Orlando, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Brooklyn and NY will wind up below us. Philadelphia and Detroit are falling back from their quick starts as well. Boston and Charlotte are doing better than expected. And Chicago made the playoffs easily last year w/o Rose, so I don't count them out one bit.
Still, it's possible to dream of the #5 spot -- esp. if we reach 44 wins.

Re: GT #13: Knicks @ Wizards 7 PM CSN
Four more games in five days starting Tuesday. It's tough but if we can go 3-1 again, we'll be in really good shape moving forward. Winning against LA and Milwaukee is a must. Probably going to lose in Indy but Atlanta at home should be winnable.
3-1 puts us at 8-9 for November, which is actually pretty damn good when you consider the 7-10 home vs. away schedule to start the season, plus two sets of 4 games in 5 days and a Texas road trip.
And it positions us well going into December, which is going to be road heavy again. 5-6 home vs. away.
If we can keep our season from getting away from us during these first two months and hover near .500, then we're going to be well positioned for a playoff push moving forward. It's 9-8 home vs road in January, 8-5 in February, 7-9 in a tough March, but 5-3 in April.

I like last big men rotations without Kevin - just Nene, Marcin and Jan. Also Maynor's minutes per game in last five games are reduced to max 10. Good move, Randy!

Really need Ariza back. Ariza would eliminate Maynor from the rotation completely (Temple would take all backup PG minutes) and he should help to cut Webster's and Beal's minutes back from 40 to 36. He could also play a little stretch four to help reduce Nene's minute load

mhd wrote:Honestly, just make Temple the permanent backup PG now, and play Rice over Maynor when Beal/Webster needs a rest. Rice won't try and do any stupid floaters, and at least as legit NBA size. We'd improve the defense in that scenerio.
You forgot about the last time Rice played when we threw up a floater and also had a brainfart on a horrible turnover. Wittman sees this guy in practice every day and if we were tanking, he'd play him 20mpg. I think you rotate him for sporadic minutes until Ariza returns. Find a matchup where he won't kill you. As for Maynor, I had some hopes for him as a distributor but he turns an up-tempo game into a no tempo game. It seems like the knee injury has turned him from a decent backup PG to a D-leaguer at best.

Re: GT #13: Knicks @ Wizards 7 PM CSN
only 8 pages after a nice Schadenfreude victory over the Knicks?
Yeah I know the Knicks are horrible but let's not forget that not beating
the bad teams that we should beat was a major failure of last year's squad.
Been occupied with other things since Saturday night and haven't gotten to comment
but I /really/ wish I could have gone to that game just to see all those Knick fans
go home disappointed.
Wall - awesome even with the high TOs. Loved the game concluding block.
Beal - nice 2nd half but please stop shooting with your foot on the 3 pt line.
That's the worst shot in basketball.
Gortat - you da man. A major contributor to the win.
Webster - chipped in nicely
Ves - not great at all but seemingly hurting us less of late. That late dunk
had to hurt those Knick fans.
Maynor - OMG. I didn't like the signing but I didn't think it would have this
negative of an impact. I would hope that past history would give us some hope
that he'll play better some time this year. Right now, I'd much rather have
Temple at the 1. Ouch.

Gortat's best game of the season. Martell had a great game. And Beal did a good job making an impact even though he's tired and his shot wasn't as pure as it usually is. Looked a little hitchy early on. That long rebound in traffic that he took up court against a 1 on 3 and fed Vesely for the easy dunk was a thing of beauty.
Good game. When we get two monster games from starters, we've got a good chance against most teams.
Tough stretch coming up. Gotta find a way to at least go 2-2 in the next four. 3-1 would be great. But Atlanta and @Indy will be hard.
I worry about both the LAL game (hate all those Faker/Kobe fans) and the ATL
game but, we're at home for both. Our house. We've got to win those games.
IND has been awesome so far this year. Eventually they may come back to earth.
Doubtful we'll win there but you never know.

Ariza and Porter both.
Ariza's return provides an opportunity for Martell to slide down to the 2 when Beal goes out.
Porter should just give us another quality player, maybe not immediately (20 yo rook) but once
he starts to get up to speed.
Jan has played well enough as the 3rd big to keep KSera on the bench. Damning with
faint praise but I would expect Jan will play better the more he plays. Last year utterly
destroyed any confidence he might have had. He doesn't have to do much, just play with
energy, rebound and defend. Be our version of Birdman/Noah.
