Knicks don't want to burn first-rounder for Kyle Lowry and naturally prefer to keep Hardaway Jr. + save Shumpert (for another deal). But ...
LOL...so I guess Knicks management trying to show they won't bend over again to try and upgrade the roster....I'm assuming this will go back and forth until reports come out the pick is top 5 protected in the 1st year, top 1 protected the next, and finally unprotected in year 3.
Honestly, I feel like our incompetent front office doesn't know how to structure a deal where they can offset the value of a 1st round pick they trade. If they're hell bent on trading a 1st rounder....
1-14 protected in 2018
1-12 protected in 2019
Turns into 2nd Round Pick in 2020
I would happily deal a first round pick under that structure. Lowry isn't some stud or huge piece that should fetch better restriction on the pick...even the Hornets were able to make the pick they sent to Philly for Holiday top 5 protected from 2014-2020, which turns into a 2nd round pick in 2020. Considering how Lowry is several tiers below Holiday, Mills should probably put top 20 protection on the pick for 2018/2019.
