The addition of a 1st round pick would definitely be too much -- I wouldn't give them more than a 2nd rounder. Of course from the Rockets' point of view the pick might be the most important part of the package.

Bass & Lee both have pretty outlandish contracts. They're both playing extremely well this year and upping their value. If the trade was done at this time last year, the Rockets would've asked for 4 first rounder's.

I think this is a theft by Ainge if it goes down as is (Lee, Bass, + 1st rd pick). Asik is worth more than that and he would be proving it if the team gave him 30-35 minutes per. He also starts at a position that is always tough to fill in the NBA. Luckily, the Howard/Asik combo didn't work and now they have to sell him off for cheap. It will wind up being a win win for both just based on how each player involved compliments the new roster their heading to, & the fact Houston can't use Asik because of Howard.

Bass is doing this year exactly what he has been doing during his entire tenure with us. His contract is hardly outlandish. Lee is definitely having a career-high, but I don't think his contract is that bad, either.

Tough year last year for both, especially Lee. I like Bass and I think he's done well with us, and is a lot better than my man BBD. Great trade by Ainge there.

Asik is far better for your team going forward, and that's essentially the issue. You have Sullinger and now have drafted Olynyk.....Bass is the odd man out. Going forward, you're not going to want to pay that contract if you're looking at Sullinger & Olynyk to take his minutes.

Hawes borderline sucks. Would be a really stupid trade for Houston.

Morey is a stats guy. Hawes shoots the 3 pointer better and can't defend for his life. So he's the type of player Morey would overvalue. And conversely, Bass' consistency and toughness make him the kind of player Morey would undervalue.

Exactly. I take Vitor over Hawes

You should probably check the numbers then. =p

Nah. Look at Bass' numbers last year. He had a rough start, but he caught fire in the second half and actually ended up playing pretty well, especially in the playoffs where he shut down Melo.

I'm not too sure he is the odd man out, either. Yes, we have Sullinger and Olynyk, but neither of them can defend both 3s AND 4s like Bass. Bass has shown the ability to savagely defend the Melos and LeBrons of the world, and that is pretty darn valuable.

That being said, for Asik, I would absolutely ship Bass out.

Just because he is going to get his playing time cut due to the return of Rondo isn't going to destroy his value. A lot of teams have a need for a feisty perimeter defender like Lee (Houston is one of them). We just won't have much room/need for him because we already have that in Bradley.

Feisty perimeter defender? Come on. If we can fool any GM into thinking that, then we should ship him out ASAP. Courtney Lee has consistently fooled teams into thinking he's been some sort of difference maker on the court, but all stats say the complete opposite.

Look at what he's been When he's on the court, on a per 48 minute basis, opponents score 105.6 ppg. When he's off the court, opponents score 105 ppg. Opposing SG's PER is 19.5.

http://www.82games.com/1314/13BOS5.HTM

His Defensive Rating has also been mediocre for years. 106 this year. It's never been better than 104 his whole career.

He's averaging a career-high .131 win shares per 48 minutes, he's shooting 51.8 percent from the floor, 48.6 percent from three, his TS% is 60.6, his eFG% is 58.3 and he is averaging 16 points per 36 minutes. But you're right; he's not making a difference this season. Also, defensive rating is not a very accurate statistic, and you have to take into consideration that when he was on the floor, other bench players are often on the floor with him rather than starters.

His defenisve rating has been the same whether he's been getting starter minutes or bench minutes. And his shooting % don't mean a thing if he's sitting on the bench as the 4th guard.

I'm getting the same vibe... I think the Rockets lose way more than us in this situation, honestly as we still keep our picks and have young talent on the roster.

Last night was lost bc Drummond could put the ball in without having to jump over anyone. Asik is needed here.

Brook Lopez destroyed us. Hibbert isn't leaving the east anytime soon either.

I sort of agree with you. But Last night's NBA player of the night was no doubt, Brandon Jennings. He was lava hot last night. 28 pts 14 assists. He was as unstoppable as anyone last night. Jennings was more important to the 1pt win than was drummond. But with that said, Drummond is like 10 feet tall and 600 lbs so yes, we need Asik.

Boom.

this basically means the trade is going to happen any hour now. That is Houston coming out to the media as leverage saying, we are prepared to move forward with Asik. Ball is in our court, not yours Danny. Throw in the pick or we don't do the deal.

Now it's up to Danny do include whatever pick they want or walk away from the deal. they are at the bargaining table. it's a negotiation like all business deals

Not sure if this is posturing or this whole thing has been a farce put on for Omer and his agent.

Let them go then boston. This trade doesn't help us or hurt us so I'm good with moving on. Playing Danny ainge seems like a strange thing to attempt, he won't budge.

Except he wouldn't be the fourth guard on every team in the league. We just happen to have a logjam at that position.

Well, it might be posturing in terms of Asik will still be dealt, but it wouldn't be shocking if it were more of a deadline deal and they backed away for a while. This self imposed deadline always seemed a little silly, as you can just do a 3 way trade at deadline instead of trading for Bass or Lee now with the intention of flipping them at deadline.

Houston probably shouldn't expect any better offers at the deadline though, they have no leverage here.
