Will Smith, Zach Duke, Mark Reynolds. Power offseason if I've ever seen one.

Yeah. I would rather take fliers on minor league invite players than sign long term deals to guys like Kendry and the like.

Add Overbay to the list. Signed for a Minor League deal.

We really should have done that last year and I still don't get why we didn't. Would have made a hell of a lot more sense than Alex Gonzalez at first. (Not that Overbay is anything special, but at least hes a real first baseman, which is more than i can say for the majority of guys that manned that position for the Brewers last year.)

Absolutely agree, though I don't think they expected both Hart and Gamel to go down before the season. Sounds like they reached out to Overbay last year and he chose Boston/New York.
All of that said, it is beyond explanation to think that Yuni is a feasible backup option. Alex Gonzalez is not one either but he was a much better 1-2 week emergency idea.

I understood them not getting him in January when Boston did (since as you said we didn't know about Corey and Mat going down), but at the end of March when the Sox released him they should have been more aggressive than the Yankees because at that time the need was at desperation levels. But maybe it is as simple as he would rather have been a Yankee than a Brewer at that point. Brewers signed Yuni the same day Yankees signed Overbay, so maybe we got shot down by Lyle and went with Yuni for some reason.

They were better off signing ANYONE but Yuni if Overbay rebuffed the offer. Pathetic...

Re: 2014 Discussion Thread
Question. Since we were so bad, do we retain our 1st round draft pick? For some reason I thought you only lose your pick by signing a type A FA if your pick ends up after 14 or something like that.

Re: 2014 Discussion Thread
They got rid of that system. It's still **** though. All you have to do is give the player a qualifying offer and have them decline and only the top 10 picks are protected. We had the 11th worst record and the 12th pick which we would lose if signed someone, Kendrys Morales for example.

Ah, good old Lyle Overbay, we can return to the pre Prince era of goodness.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Only if you're into chicks with pointy elbows. They may not be seen but it's fairly obvious.

Is he a type a free agent?
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

Re: 2014 Discussion Thread
Garza doesn't cost a pick because he was traded midseason.
