Funny how Lebron can easily shift the narrative his way with upcoming 3 national televised games if he just plays up to what we expect from him (obviously the Finals Rematch and vs. KD).

Now now just a reminder he is the best and most valuable (if he still is) he just haven't been this year is all the doubt it will take to erase the huge lead Durant has on him IMO.

Lebron may be the only one who can earn a narrative MVP and still not cheapen it since the majority of the opinion is that he is still the best just coasting at least to me. Now he may end up outproducing Durant by the end of the season (I doubt so) or just isn't up to snuff these next 3 games and this is all a moot point. But it's interesting to think about. Lebron using narrative rather than raw gaudy dominance over the rest of the league in the MVP race.

My last post for now, but I think at this point KD has built up enough of a lead that he's bought himself at least 1 of the OKC/Miami matchups. By that I mean, he can stink it up while LeBron dominates and he should still have a comfortable lead for the MVP. Don't think he can do that twice yet though.

Normally I'd agree but because the media still thinks Lebron is close to DPOY caliber. If he does his 30-10-9 and holds Durant to 24-7-4 on bad shooting or something like that, you'll see the SEE he's the best Offensive and Defensive player of the 2, people are forgetting the defensive side of the ball where Lebron is great.

While Lebron has actually been mediocre (for his high standards) defensively this year and OKC has been a much, much better defensive team (more to do with the team than Durant though he's pulling his weight).

I'm just putting it out there, the perception of what Lebron is (which he has earned) and the clear acknowledgment that he's coasting can be brought out if he reminds us why people thought he was approaching GOAT/BOAT level regular season last year. Top 1 Offense/ Top 5-10 Defense (Top 2 for a wing).

While I agree that overall Durant has had the better year so far, I think his point is that at points in this season LeBron has outplayed Durant. Let's not forget a month and a half ago when Miami's record was a bit better and LeBron was shooting 60%, everyone had James as the MVP.

There's still a long ways to go. At the same time, overall yeah Durant has obviously been superior.

At points ya, obviously LeBron has been better. Put looking at the season as a whole, which is what the MVP is supposed to be, i think most people are in agreement.

Durant is already clearly in the lead. We don't need to resort to what-ifs to argue his case.

ESPN sees it closer than we do:

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/10331 ... ble-player

LeBron got 20 first place votes, Durant 29; PG 2. Durant's got a 23 point lead.

David Aldridge moved Durant into first place on his MVP watch in his weekly column for the first time all season; he's a voter I'm pretty sure. So he's got Durant and LeBron pretty close if he moved Durant ahead for the first time all season just this week.

This is definitely KD's MVP to lose....and I'm pretty sure he's not going to let this one get away from him.

KD plays in the West, that alone should help him out with how **** terrible the East is this year. LeBron and the Heat can coast as long as they want to.

Which is why i don't expect Westbrook to come back until late March. Rest him as long as we can, OKC can hold down a top 2 seed without him.

Dont think you can tbh. Durant is on a tear but will cool down eventually.

Durant is the MVP right now.

However, the Heat started their 27 game win streak on SuperBowl Sunday IIRC. Don't count Lebron (or anyone else) out, we're only half way there.

That's just the media taking previous seasons and reputations into account. I remember reading something Michael Wallace wrote regarding the MVP, which was along the lines of "LeBron is still the best player in the league, and until that changes he's the MVP".

Based on this season alone so far, which it should be, anything other than KD is plain wrong. I'd love to read the reasons for those 20 first place votes, I suspect it would be a lot of "still the best player" stuff.

Whatever the reason, this just shows that the media has the race pretty close. Any big stretch from LeBron could vault right back on top in the media' eyes. ESPN is very influential in the MVP race and this shows that they don't have LeBron as far off from Durant as we do.

Heat and Thunder play a week from tonight. I hope Wade has a full healthy recovery, but it would be pretty awesome if LeBron and Durant matched up against each other without their side kicks available.

Durant is the MVP at the moment but there's literally half a season to go.

You can even forgive the 10 turnovers (ironically a lot of them seemed to be because he was trying not to shoot). His shooting is unconscious now, even the off balance running three is a good shot.

He had 11 TOs.
