Can't have a guy like Melo and surround him with scorers. You need do everything guys who are exceptional defenders.

Pistons lost to Milwaukee tonight. They're reeling like us. Josh Smith has been as bad a fit as Bargs has been for us. Trading for each other makes sense b/c Bargs has less years on his contract and is a "stretch 4". They also need shooting badly - I wonder if they would take JR?

I'll drive to Detroit and pick up Josh Smith if we could do this deal - Josh Smith for JR / Bargs

1. Lmao if you really think the Knicks would be able to trade two mainly negative players for a guy that's a potential all-star every year.

2. Detroit is too invested in the Smith/Drummond combo. Monroe is the guy they would be willing to move, and the Knicks don't really have any pieces to offer for him besides Shumpert and THJ. And I doubt they'd move Monroe for either or both of those guys since they just drafted KCP, who also looks promising. And Monroe isn't really a good fit next to Melo anyways.

I've seen crazier things happen in this league. Dumping Josh Smith is a re-do for them. Don't be surprised if you see him moved.

Knicks acquire: Russell Westbrook, Gerald Wallace, Keith Bogans, & Kendrick Perkins

Thunder acquire: Rajon Rondo, Tyson Chandler, Raymond Felton, JR Smith & 2018 1st round pick via NYK

Celtics acquire: Reggie Jackson, Jeremy Lamb, Andrea Bargnani, Perry Jones III, Beno Udrih, Hasheem Thabeet & 2015 1st round pick via Thunder (top 10 protected pick)

Who says no?

Thunders obviously says no. You have them giving up Westbrook and all of their young talents for Rondo and 3 bad contracts.

Not saying it's a good trade idea (although it's not bad value wise), it's just trades with more than 5 players aren't common, let alone one with 14 players (2-3 all star players in this trade too) and picks.... but to call Tyson, Ray and JR bad contracts is ludicrous. Fans always go extremes with valuing their own players and in this case you're grossly under-rating them.

The only one that you could argue is a bad contract, is JR... even then it's debatable. JR of last year is worth $8-10 mil and grossly underperforming JR of this year is still worth ~$3 mil because you always know (and so do defenses) that he's capable of lighting it up. So average that out and you're looking at JR's value being around $4 mil. He gets ~$6 mil a year for the next 2 years, if anything it's a minor over pay (but at the same time it could be a good contract).

I promise you that every single team in the league would happily take Tyson on his contract... to call him a bad contract is laughable. Tyson at his worst still brings so many positives. He's still a major positive asset. I really don't have to explain this anymore, I'm sure everyone would agree.

Felton makes under $4 mil for the next two seasons. And yeah I don't think he's a starting caliber PG anymore... but he'd easily be a top tier back up PG. Looking around the league, that's a good rate for a back up PG (not on his rookie deal obviously). Some players who are around the same level as Felton: Sessions ($5 mil), Hinrich ($4 mil), Andre Miller ($5 mil), and Steve Blake ($4 mil). Felton may have more years on his contract than most of them, but that's just because he signed his deal after they did (besides Miller/Hinrich). And when you have someone on a fair contract, a lot of times you rather have them locked up for longer. Ray's 29 now, odds are he's not gonna decline much (or at all) over the next 2-3 years.

Greg Monroe is like the ideal player for the Knicks to target right now (besides the pipe dream of Rondo)... even he's a pipe dream tho. I definitely think the Pistons HAVE to trade one of Smith/ Monroe, I've thought so since they signed Smith. Monroe is worth a pretty sizable contract, so to invest a lot into him... you want to get the most you can out of him, which is something you can't do with Smith, Drummond and him on the same team. That doesn't necessarily mean signing Josh Smith was a bad move though, even on that huge deal he's got positive value (I think a few teams were willing to offer it to him IIRC).

My point is to maximize Smith's value, they should put him in the best position to succeed. And that's at the 4 next to Drummond. Sure they could stagger the three of their minutes, starting Smoove at the 3 but still playing him at the 4 for the majority (by playing Smith at the 4, Monroe at the 5 with Drummond out- probably around 15 minutes- and Smith at the 4, Drummond at the 5 with Monroe out- another 15 minutes)... but it's still not getting your money's worth on them.

Shump, Felton and a first for Monroe works. So does Shump, Beno, and Aldrich (and a first). Before you spazz and say that's underpaying, you have to realize that you have to add the caveat that it has to be a team Monroe would be willing to re-sign with and that has to be willing to pay him a lot.
It comes down to whether:
A. Detroit wants to pay Monroe the big money he'll garner as a restricted FA (and risk losing him to another team for nothing) or not
B. Detroit's view on Shump (and a little bit KCP, but I think Shump can play SF full time... especially on that roster)
C. NY's value of Monroe. Not so much because of who we're trading, but more so because of the fact that to do the trade you have to know that you're willing to pay him in the summer (and throw out 2015 cap space). So does NY think he's worthy of being Melo's #2 guy? It's also worth adding that rebuilding this way, instead of straight up free agency allows NY to keep their own FAs (like Tyson most importantly) and Monroe on paper is the perfect fit next to Melo and Tyson.

I have a strong feeling we'll be getting a 2nd round pick for Beno. He's got more value than Brewer did last year IMO. If the people who swear 2nd round picks are extremely valuable, don't praise the Beno signing if we trade him for a 2nd... then they're hypocrites.

Chandler Shumpert Felton to OKC
Udrih to MIL
Perkins Sefalosha Jackson Neal Thabeet OKC 1st / MIL 2nd to NY

We would waive Thabeet

MIL does it b/c Neal is on the block and it gives them imminent cap relief
OKC does it b/c Perkins and Sefalosha have been duds and they want to dump these deals. They had interest in Chandler before. Shump is their future 2 guard. Felton gives them a back up PG
NY does this - we get our starting pg of the future. Other contracts are all expiring next year, but serve good roles we need.

Get him in the eventual trade for Rondo. Def will have to give 1-2 1st rd picks in that deal whenever it happens. Might only need 1 pick if we give up Shump (and he turns it around)

I'll answer your question with another question - why the hell would you want him on the Knicks? :-?

Jeff Green is the last thing we need on our team right now.

First is Point Guard
Second is Head Coach
But the actual First thing we need is a smater owner...

I have no problem with the owner as long as he leaves the basketball descions to people who are suppose to not wat he thinks is best

This. He is not a difference maker that we have to trade our young assets for.

While Jalen Rose was throwing the Camelo to Bulls in order to play Rose, Noah and coached by Thibs,, I thought different.

We have a 1.5 of seasons left until free agency and to b honest, baring a trade of Shumpert or Felton elevates his game. I would bring in Kevin Love and Goran Dragic for a conversation.

Our owner doesn't leave basketball decisions to the appropriate people  :( If he were no more than a checkbook, he'd be great -- mainly because we know he will spend BIG money. However, his input is in basically every decision this team makes...

jennings and smith are both "knick" type players, i'm almost certain they'll end up as knicks
