I think they kept some of the older players too long. I know the names alone put people in the seats but winning is more important

They failed at retaining Dwight Howard and are clutching way too tightly to older players such as Nash and Kobe's 50 million dollar deal at this stage is nuts. And they are probably going to let Pau Gasol walk away for nothing.

What's to like?

If you talk about the pride Lakers say they have, you shouldn't be having the issues the Lakers are having this year!

Running out of players to play, and just the terrible record. I mean they say they aren't tanking cause they have too much pride, yet they say this as they sit at bottom of Western Conference.

You know your doing terrible if you could draft Wiggins, Parker and Embiid, and you would still suck next year, which is what the Lakers and Cavs would do if they had that opportunity.

The Lakers aren't trying to compete now, because they know they can't so having a terrible record this season doesn't really matter.

They chose Mike D'Antoni over Phil Jackson

The contract they gave Nash, extension they gave Kobe and alienating Gasol will really hurt how attractive their club looks for blue chip free agents leading into free agency this off-season.

I actually do approve of the job being done, although I admit some of the transactions didn't turn out as planned.

They sold high on Bynum and were able to trade for Dwight Howard. They could have done more to please him and make it "his" team, but that simply was not going to happen with Pau, Nash, and Bryant on the team.

The trade for Nash was seen as a win at the time as Nash had a good season previously and thought he was the shooter/playmaker they needed after losing to OKC in the playoffs due to poor outside shooting from the likes of Barnes and Sessions.

Do the Lakers wish they could reverse the Nash trade now after having missed the better part of the last two seasons, probably, but hindsight is 20/20.

The extension to Kobe is fairly harmless in my opinion, as I don't see a free agent that would be willing to come to the Lakers this off-season that would turn them into a Championship team overnight. The extension is to keep Kobe a Laker and people in the seats while they re-build.

I see the Lakers trading Gasol before this trade deadline, likely for salary dump + 1st rd pick. I see them "tanking" the season and likely getting a top 5 pick and getting a player like Wiggins, Randle, Exum, Parker or Embiid. I also see them going after Love in the 2015 off-season, who they have a good shot at signing.

Overall, its a down year for the Lakers but they are on the right path to rebuilding.
