Rocket fans think they can get Rondo for Lin, while Knick fans think Shump and a 1st round pick next decade is appealing.

Sure

I feel like if Asik could have gotten Houston a good pick, it would have already happened.

Not buying any of these rumors really.
Stinks of Ainge building value in his biggest asset. It's what every other smart GM would do. Rockets GM and Toronto GM both want Rondo huh? Sacramento willing to give up the farm which just so happens to be what Ainge wants? Yet Rondo won't re-sign even if its 17 months away.
Ainge is the best. Brilliant marketing and turning away other celebrity GMs like Morey and Masa as he vows to keep his coveted veteran point guard for nothing less than the world.

All leads up to 2014 draft night and who's available to pick for the Celtics.
Just widens his opportunity and builds more value. He's like the very best car industry sales managers- masters of their art, masters at creating imaginary value and urgency.
One day Marcus Smart will be defensive player of the year, mark my words.

Denver sure learned that the hard way, by stealing all their draft picks and players, Gallo,Mozgov,Chandler etc. The Knicks only had two months to free agency and could've signed Melo outright. Horrible franchise.

All these reports and "leaks" are pretty much the teams' public posture, only each team itself knows how sincere they are.

To me, it just seems that Ainge doesn't have to trade Rondo now unless he is offered a price that he doesn't think he will get come summer. The only party with urgency to make a deal are trade partners who are possible title contenders with Rondo and want to add him for a playoff run. The Celtics are not getting anywhere this season anyway so Ainge can wait.

Is there a worse beat-writer/bigger homer than Marc Berman of the NY Post? The guys is such a stooge. This was my favorite blurb from his latest "Knicks trying to get Rondo" article"

http://nypost.com/2014/02/18/carmelo-wants-to-be-in-the-loop-on-knicks-trade-talks/

A source told The Post recently Rondo would love to play for the Knicks not just because of his friendship with Anthony, but because he would love to compete against Brooklyn’s Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, his former Celtics teammates.

I just got done arguing with a few of them on the Knicks board.

Apparently Rondo is secretly demanding a trade to the Knicks.

Wait...

We both play in the Atlantic division. He plays the Nets same amount of times here as he would if he was a Knick

At this point I think they're trying to convince their-selves that Rondo wants to be traded there.

What if he is? That was the plan right and now it is the deadline and Rondo is apparently telling everyone else not to bother he won't sign there. Isn't that what CP3 and Melo did?

Melo and CP3 made it very clear that they wanted out of Denver and New Orleans and which teams they wanted to play for.

From what we've heard from Rondo he wants to be a Celtic. Everything else is just your typical trade deadline speculation with writers like Broussard desperate to get hits at this time.

No this isn't true. Melo and CP3 never said anything, they frequently would pay lip service to wanting to stay with the team. Then they would disrupt trade negotiations or refuse to agree to an extension with a given team and the Knicks and the Lakers respectively just kept calling.

Stern stepped in and killed the Laker deal and the Knicks ended up paying the ransom. But now Stern is gone and Ainge doesn't need anyone to hold his hand. The Knicks have nothing to offer. The Lakers may be a possible alternative but it doesn't seem to be coming together.

My concern is that while doing it in a quieter fashion Rondo is doing the same thing. If it is true it is a shame and it will be a long year and a half.

It would be pretty perplexing what benefit was gained by naming Rondo team captain if he were pulling this stuff in the background.

I think you're overreacting a bit, I don't think that just because he allegedly doesn't want to play for the Kings or Raptors means he wants out of Boston.

Of course I'm not saying it's impossible that he could want to be traded to the Knicks, I just don't see it right now I think it's moreso the Knicks and their fanbase kind of assuming that he does.

Even if Rondo were orchestrating things behind the scenes, that wouldn't change the fact that NYK has literally nothing to offer. Why would we accept an offer from them right now? Their best offer will be just as terrible come the offseason, as it is now.

As I said in the other thread why is Rondo or at least his people responding to rumored trade offers? Rondo isn't on the block right? He hasn't asked for a trade right? Ainge isn't taking calls on Rondo right?

The other part that bothers me is that about two days ago the Knicks rumor mill shifts and they are after Jeff Teague and Jeremy Lin and at that point is when the reports that Rondo is nixing trade destinations comes out.

Don't want the guy traded hope there is nothing to it but I don't like what I am reading and hearing.

Maybe the teams contacted his agent? Or maybe it's not true and is just a case of writers making up things to get a story, which we all know they do. Fact of the matter is that he isn't on the block and he hasn't asked for a trade. Even if those stories were true (Which I have my doubts about), like I said just because he doesn't want to play in Sacramento or Toronto doesn't mean he doesn't want to be here.

The Knicks rumor mill hasn't shifted, they're still talking about Rondo. Their beatwriters and fans are pretty much linking them to any player that could possibly be traded whether it's Rondo, Teague, Lin, Josh Smith, Eric Gordon, Tyreke, etc.
