Unless we get Harden or Howard, I can't see any way possible we make a trade with Houston involving Rondo. They're not giving up those guys, so yeah, it's pretty much impossible.
Why on earth would Rondo want to be stuck with that nutcase Howard anyway?

Just wait til the day of the draft to deal Rondo. Parsons is a good player, but is 25 and going to get paid big soon. Rather get a top 8 draft pick, who will be around much longer...

Id feel sorry if we traded Rondo to Houston.
On another note Houston fans are delirious about their players value. I know all fans are homers but they are a new level. I just saw Beverley called a good young PG prospect. Hes only two years younger than Rondo. Lol.

It's a good point about Parsons, he's not some 21 year old. If gets $14M/year and his production slips a bit, the backlash will come hard for him.

Got some real big brains in that thread. One guy has demonstrated how Rondo is less efficient in the playoffs. Probably never dawned on him that this is true of everyone, as you aren't playing half your minutes against lottery teams anymore.

I don't see a deal with Houston to be made.
I love a rumor as much as the next guy, and I'm open to moving Rondo, but I just don't see it. Ainge and Rondo are to be linked moving forward. Draft a stud. Trade or sign a stud. Balance your roster, land some role players, and you're right back in contention.
As bad as the Celtics have been this year, they're NOT that far away from being one of the better teams in the league. Especially when you consider the WEALTH of assets the Danny has to play with, which he very may well be able to add to by moving some other players not named Rondo.

Embiid, Parker, or Wiggins? Who else would be taken in the top 3?
If you think dropping a potential of Rondo and Marcus Smart is worth just having Parker or Wiggins...man, I don't know what to say. In my opinion, these guys are pretty damn good, but they aren't THAT good.
Embiid, though, yeah, I'd listen to that. Problem is the chance of actually getting that one guy is so small, it's not worth losing Rondo for nothing useful. We're still in position to get a decent lottery pick with him so we should ride it out.
The only guys I'm willing to sell 50 cents on the dollar are Green, Bass, Hump, etc. The role players. I want full value for guys like Rondo, Sullinger, Olynyk, and Bradley (maybe not Bradley if we can use him to drop Wallace).
The problem that people don't seem to understand is Rondo seems to be a certainty to test free agency. It is also almost a certainty that some team is going to offer Rondo max, or near max money. That will put the Celtics in a position where they will need to match that or let Rondo walk and get nothing in return. I find it hard to imagine the Celtics winning anything with Rondo eating up $16m+/year of the salary cap.
Another issue here is PG is currently the deepest and one of the least important positions in the NBA. It shouldn't be too difficult to find someone to replace him.

But here is the thing: Rondo has a chance to PROVE he's worth a ton of money now that he is the "man". If he doesn't do that by next season's deadline you can trade him then if you think he's going to get the max and you don't want to pay it.
Whether you trade him now or in the offseason or next deadline the reality is that Rondo can restrict the teams that will trade for him by threatening not to sign. So barring another injury, Rondo's value can really only go up in terms of value to Boston or trade value.
NOW, if you can get PREMIUM value for Rondo now, I think there is absolutely incentive to do that. But that goes for ANY PLAYER, at ANY TIME.

I don't think Rondo is dying to go to free agency. Where did this come from? He doesn't want out. This is Trader Danny trying to build.
If we offer Rondo a max contract (which I am against), that man is signing it right now.

Re: Rondo Trade Rumors & Ideas (update pg 8)
I don't know.
I think Parson, Asik, Lin and a pick or 2 is a good haul.
But, if you aren't a believer in Parsons as a scorer (I think he's a legit No. 2 talent and a 20 ppg scorer potentially) and Asik's defense and rebounding as long-term answers, then the trade isn't that good.
I am a believer in Asik and Parsons, but this isn't a no brainer.
Rondo's great. If you aren't sure Parsons and Asik are future starters for this team and major cogs in he rebuild, no need to do the deal. I think we have a lot of picks, and if we can get that major player and keep Rondo could be a quick rebuild.
We can also keep Rondo and see how it shakes up on draft day.

Celts still eager/open to all types of moves, but no dance partner YET. And don't even get us started on non-talks w/Houston...

Sure he has a chance to prove it, but it seems pretty unlikely he will make a major jump at this point. It is actually quite likely that the highest Rondo's trade value will ever be is right now. He has shown he is healthy, everyone knows what kind of player he is. Any team that trades for him will be guaranteed a minimum of two playoff runs with him. That won't be the case if you wait until the summer.

The context is quite different from what people seem to be alluding to, though. Here's the exact quote:
http://www.celticshub.com/2014/01/31/ra ... rigues-me/
Upon being asked about the report, Rondo responded with a blunt “Already?” to the question about his contract, but saying he had no response to the report.
Things got more interesting from there in the Q-and-A.
Reporter: Is free agency something that intrigues you?
Rondo: “It is.”
Reporter: Something you’ve thought about?
Rondo: “I haven’t thought about it. I’ve just thought about getting my leg as strong as possible, continue to shake off the rust this year and come back even better next.”
What about free agency intrigues you?
“It’s kind of like, I would say, maybe college recruiting. I’m pretty sure a lot more goes into it in the NBA. A lot more money is spent. I’ve heard stories, guys getting called right at midnight. It’s something that I haven’t experienced. I may want to go through it. I haven’t thought about it at all.”

I don't think Rondo would mesh well with Harden either, Harden plays better with a PG who can also play off the ball & allow him to create.
This is hardly even fair, the rest of the league is playing checkers and Danny Ainge is playing 12-dimensional chess.

Agreed. Harden is pretty ball dominant, which isn't a bad thing at all, just not a backcourt mate that is very compatible with Rondo.

An excerpt from ClutchFans:

People call Rondo an a-hole or whatever, but he's in Boston. This city doesn't exactly have a reputation of being a friendly town. Houston might change him some. He's tough as nails. That part is good. People being friendly everywhere might lighten him up. He's a Southern guy from Kentucky in Boston.

"[Brad Stevens] was just cool. He's always, always super cool." -- Stanley Johnson
