Henson 19/17

Opponent PER is 18, which will surely go up after tonight's game against the T'Wolves. It's not a stretch to say Serephin has been playing better than him over the last few games. Hands11 is right, he's not a starting center on a good team--he's a back up. It is interesting, although perhaps a coincidence, that the Suns are playing great without Gortat.

I'm leading the mob, say no to resigning Gortat in 2014! Gor-tata!

11. Marcin Gortat’s Next Contract
I’m jumping the gun and throwing this on here now. It’s the perfect storm: You have an up-and-down big man playing for a new deal (Gortat); a bumbling front office with a track record of overpaying dudes; the “we already lost our 2014 pick to get this guy” anvil hanging over everything; the probability of the Wiz energizing Chocolate City just by winning ONE playoff series; and if that’s not enough, a 35-year track record of irresponsible Washington moves. My prediction: Gortat re-signs with the Wizards in July for somewhere between $60 million and $360 million.

Truth is true. I'm hoping Ted doesn't allow for the resign before the end of the year when Ernie (pleasepleaseplease) gets canned.

WOW, maybe that means EG is gone considering Ted wouldn't want to lose a 1st rounder for nothing.

Or maybe it means that they think they can sign Monroe, which would
make Ted happy what with the G'town connection.

I'm not even a Monroe fan, but I'd rather sign him than Gortat.

Of course, the most prudent action would be the preserve the cap for Durant.

I think signing Jordan Hill for 2 years might be the most prudent FA decision.

I like Gortat. But but other options may be possible/better.

Damnit, what am I gonna do with my Gortat authentic jersey? Hang it up next to my Darko Pistons jersey in the back of the closet? *shakes fist*

I would put Gortat & Monroe is the same category defensively. So in other words I'd pass on Monroe.

It depends on Monroe's cost for me. I like him but he's flawed.

If Gortat is significantly cheaper, I'd go with him over Monroe even though he's so much older.

I think we're two players away anyway. I want us to sign Patrick Patterson in addition to whichever center we can get. We need a shooter and Patterson is pretty nice.

Let Ariza walk, sign Gortat or Monroe, sign Patterson, promote Webster to the starting lineup, work Porter into Webster's role, sign Seraphin to be the back up C and 9th man.

1 - Wall
2 - Beal
3 - Webster
4 - Nene
5 - Gortat/Monroe
6 - Patterson
7 - Porter
8 - Miller
9 - Seraphin
10 - Booker?
11 - Temple?
12 - Rice?

I would sign neither Gortat nor Monroe. I'd sign Hill on a 2 year deal, resign Ariza, Trade webster for backup big and then sign the best PG you can if we don't pick up Miller's entire contract. Resign Seraphin, see how much booker commands...

Use the '14 2nd rounder on the best big prospect we can get our hands on.

Gortat won't help this team contend and certainly monroe at max money won't help this team contend.

Bill Simmons has a great paragraph in his annual Worsts Contracts of the NBA column:

11. Marcin Gortat’s Next Contract
I’m jumping the gun and throwing this on here now. Last 5 games his avg. are:
16.4 pkt 11.2 reb 2.2 as on 62,5% FG (35/56).

I would say he will agree on $40 mln for 4 years if Wizards really show him they will be a force in the East.

They shouldn't give him anything over 3 years, 30 mil (and that's pushing it).

He's 30 and a poor defensive player.
