I just don't understand how you get 4 less minutes in a close game vs the Rockets than you get in a blowout vs the Bobcats.

Not sure if it was a shot or Westbrook just telling the truth, but he just said

"If Durant played another quarter, he might have gotten 70."

The team looked old and slow. This is why when I hear the "supporting cast for Durant worse" argument, I chuckle. Particularly given that the Heat are trying for their 4th straight Finals. They're the oldest team in the league, and the most worn down. You will get nights like this.

This race will stay tight provided both teams keep winning. Tonight is Durant's night and a night for the LeBron Dislikers to have their fun. That's how it is, and I'm sure the opposite may happen soon enough. As it did last night.

Just enjoy it, great race! Doesn't happen all the time.

I like LeBron, but I also like Durant and have great respect for what he's doing this year. He looks like absolutely a very legit prospect for Top 10-15 all time, or better.

   Only if the ref called over 30 FT for him. I mean Lebron got 12 FT on 33 attempts, many of them near the rim. While Durant got 18 on 20. Lets not mention they were playing the Philadelphia tankers

Durant has the lead now. This performance was expected on a back to back from LeBron, especially after 61. Too tired.

Absolutely. Tonight's game doesn't move LeBron either way in the MVP race for me especially after what he did last night. If he plays well against SA and CHI he will redeem himself.

I am just going to enjoy this race without getting hung up on the outcome. I think LeBron naysayers focus too much on nitpicking him that I can't help but wonder if it takes away from their enjoyment of the game. I hope these two phenomenal talents beast out and give us a lot to discuss, analyze, and marvel at.

This race isn't swinging either way on one game. It'll come down to the wire, mostly based on team records I believe.

Not at all, at least for me. He makes a great villain, I was a big fan before he ditched his hometown team. Rooting for Durant to overtake LeBron in every way is some of the most enjoyable time I've spent watching basketball. And taking shots at LeBron when he sucks, like he certainly did tonight, is part of the fun!

Great comment. Both of these guys are having amazing years and it's fun to watch. They both could finish with 30+ PERs. Amazing.

That's cool and all but you can't deny that there are certain posters who go to every LeBron thread and will nitpick or subtly put him down. Maybe you are genuinely rooting against him (without any irrational hate) and I can see the fun in that but there are also a few posters who are obsessed and no matter what he does will find the negative or manufacture hate or dislike. For example, the comments in the Mt. Rushmore thread were ridiculous or just read the thread about LeBron saying he could score 60 points on 37 shots.

Yes, no sense in suggesting it would have been wise for LeBron to not play the whole 4th quarter vs the Bobcats when the game was already over and he had a bigger game to worry about the next day.

Forgive me, this is not a direct shot at you, but that attitude in general is quite pathetic and also clearly makes all your arguments invalid due to the blatant bias.

There's only been one year in NBA history where you had two players finish with 30+ PER ratings.

2008-09 --- LeBron and Wade. That was Beast Wade Mode.

But we could see it again this year. Durant's looking good, LeBron just has to keep enough gas in the tank to get to the 30 PER finish line, IMO.

The criterion should be the same as before. If the Heat don't win 4 games more than the Thunder, then the MVP is Durant's. Imagine having to play the West's top teams, with Westbrook missing a bunch of them(30 in total already). On the other hand, the Heat have benefited a bunch of games against the West's top teams, without its star players. That's why you take those records with a grain of salt.

Its a close race, but not close enough that we need to declare a new leader every night based on every game. A lot of prisoner of the moment victims in here.

This is what I was saying last night. OKC is 23-8 without Westbrook and the Heat are 10-7 without Wade. You look at the standings now and OKC has 3 more wins than Miami and the same amount of losses. Durant's numbers are better by comparison. His conference is tougher.

One good game vs the Bobcats shouldn't have changed anything. If Durant wanted to, he could of went for a career high vs the 76ers, but he's obviously got a bigger goal in mind right now.

LeBron is still in the race (and the only other guy in it), no doubt, I was just taken back by ESPN (and other media networks) plastering him all over TV for going off vs the BOBCATS in a blowout. Melo did the same thing and it was reported, and then they moved on. ESPN had debates if it was the greatest scoring performance ever and a bunch of other nonsense. Meanwhile LeBron comes out next game (in the game that is actually meaningful) and plays less minutes, with lower energy, and looks gassed by the 4th.

The irony is running up the score on the Bobcats might of actually hurt LeBron's MVP chances if it was directly related to coming out with no energy and losing to the Rockets.
