OT: What Are You Listening to Now?

Post#1 » by LamarMatic7 » Thu Mar 13, 2014 5:52 pm

whether it's something you're listening at that exact moment or something you've been listening to a lot as of late, post it here. I hope that such posts will spark some quality discussion and Fats will rank that particular artist's best albums.

I, for one, have been listening to a lot of OutKast lately. Somehow I had always dismissed them despite their status in hip hop, mostly because of their Southern roots. I remember not quite feeling Aquemini and Stankonia the first times I tried them and ended up assuming that I just can't enjoy even the best Southern hip hop like OutKast, Goodie Mob, etc.

Gave Aquemini a listen again after many years and finally fell for them.

I listen primarily to video game music. I know, I'm a rare breed.

as far as video game music goes, this probably is the only track that I would actually listen from time to time

Part 1 is over at 3:51

Pure Instrumental, but this guy's one of the best guitarists IMO and also happens to be a huge basketball fan. He has a few songs named/about Jordan, Lebron, Blake, George Gervin, etc. His other stuff is really good too

When it comes to rock, I'm moreso into classic rock, yet the first tune was quite all right. I will add it to my library. I can listen to some metal but I can't quite enjoy everything. Per example, Black Sabbath would be a group I listen to often.

Hahaha that's from watching the games with all these commercials playing over and over.

My friend and I are always saying " Felis Sabates-a-Mercedes-a-Benz-a-Sousa-Charlotte" after it comes on lol

Oh yeah, it's beef and pork and bacon in your burger. That's another one I can't get rid of

Yeah, I'm more of a modern rock/metal fan myself, though bands like Pantera and Metallica are pretty much staples when I'm listening to music. I do enjoy the occasional Black Sabbath song as well.

My last 4 Spotify plays:

Young Fathers

Dengue Fever (an LA band that does covers of Cambodian psychedelic classics - and originals - with a Cambodian female singer)

The Black Angels - Austin, TX band

Lawrence Arabia - London indie guy.

And - yes, sorry - I'm lazy so no YouTube embeds. Cooking dinner with the other hand.

Man Outkast are just legends, every album is at least close to a classic (not counting Idlewild). I'm pretty opposite of you right now LamarMatic, I'm trying to get myself to listen to something other than southern rap, since I've been binging on UGK, Three 6 Mafia and the like for the past six months.

But Piñata by Freddie Gibbs & Madlib leaked today, and it's album of the year without a doubt. Madlib's my favorite producer and his beats just go so well with Gibbs' voice and flow. Madlib's best work since Madvillany imo.

A buttload of Maximo Park. Love this band, even the oft-maligned third album.

The one song everybody should hear:

Another cracker from a great album:

I keep trying to like this band but they can't just hook me.

Re: Outkast

I can't stand them. The first two albums are passable but the rest is drek. Southern hip hop is and probably always will be generally terrible. Caveat: Little Brother is pretty good and local to NC.
