Clint Capela

Post#1 » by Jazzfan12 » Wed Mar 19, 2014 11:29 pm

PF/C from the French league. Stats guys love him, DX has him in the lottery. Seems hyper athletic, but pretty unskilled from his numbers. Are there good games to judge him by online?

I was checking out his scouting report video on DX. Very impressive athlete and shot blocker but raw on the offensive end. Reminds me a bit of Ibaka. I would also be interested in hearing from anyone who may have actually seen him play.

Amazing FG%. I dont see the Ibaka comparison, not the freak athlete or jump shooter Ibaka is. I see a bit for JJ Hickson in him

I think his fg% is mainly due to putbacks and rolling to the basket on PnR's. I don't see Hickson either as JJ is a bit undersized and Capela looks legit length to play C or PF. He does look very ahtletic though and I can see he does have a little bit of a decent form to his jumpshot. It took Ibaka a few years to hit a consistent mid range shot.

He broke out the same way Kevin Seraphin did, who is the player he reminds me most of. Being a very physical player in a guard-dominant league will draw attention to you. He's a better rebounder and shotblocker than Seraphin was but is less polished on offense, although he is far from useless there. His size is not ideal though, I dont see him as a C in the NBA. I think if he pans out he can be a good contributing big off the bench, but nothing more

He even seems to have the same demeanor as Seraphin, but I think you give Seraphin too much credit. The only thing he does well on offense is his jump hook. The rebounding difference you mention is important - as Seraphin is - for reasons I can't understand - a horrible defensive rebounder. And when you're a big who allows too many put-backs, you don't play.

Pro A is not a guard-dominant league (best player are big men : Nivins and Falker) and Capela is a lot better than Seraphin was in Pro A. They are not the same type of player at all.
Capela and Ibaka compares well physically and athletically. I think Capela is a bit more mobile and a better handler but he never shoots outside the paint like Ibaka does on a regular basis. He is improving his FT% since a few months though

He is good. Thats a serious league he is playing in...above college ball in the states. I have only seen the same footage available on the interwebs that you all have seen, but I like him. still only 19 with pro experience and more than holding his own.

Should he get drafted before Montrezl Harrell?

I think so. Montrezl Harrell scores by bullying smaller players in college. He wont be able to do that in the NBA as he's generously listed at 6'8 (more like 6'6) plus he has no back to the basket game or a jump shot. I can see him being a jason maxiell type player. Meanwhile clint capela is 6'10 and has a similar skillset to Ibaka minus the jumpshot (although his jumper looks decent).

yes, he is better, longer quicker and has more upside at about the same age.

Unfortunately for Harrell, 6'10.5 beats 6'6.5 six days a week and twice on Sundays.

i honestly haven't seen much of him play at all, but if DX's scouting report is accurate then this kid's game is filled with what i would consider disqualifiers.

he checks a lot of boxes for things that i don't want in a player. very low iq, poor awareness, no skill, lacks toughness, hot/cold motor.
if those are accurate then i would not want him. i'm a big believer in physical tools determining player potential, but the likelihood of the player reaching his potential is strongly dependent on his intangibles. what dx describes is a zero intangibles player.

Montrezl Harrell is 6'7, but that's overlooked for his length. I think everything evens out for the two of them and they're drafted around the same spot. Of course, GMs love the mystery players and there is probably a better chance Cappella is drafted first.

With that said, Chad Ford says there are some rumors that he's going to be at the Nike Hoop Summit. So we'll get a better look at him there.

He is the reason why chalon is doing so well this year

I think he could be the next ibaka, really hope orlando draft him, he fits their need (next to vuc)

Has comparable measurements to Anthony Davis, potential is off the charts.
