Attendance is a bad way to judge a franchise. Attendance just counts the number of tickets sold. Once you are a season ticket holder, you will be counted in attendance even if you don't show up. Turnstile rate is the best way to judge a franchise.

http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Jour ... acker.aspx

Guess what...the Wizards are 19th in average attendance and 23rd in capacity filled. I don't really call that great numbers.

It get's worst. The NBA average capacity fill rate this year is approximately 90%. The numbers fluctuate, but they normally go between 88-90%. The Wizards high point in attendance was the MJ years in 2001 & 2002. The wizards have NEVER gotten above 83% in capacity filled in any year after that. They are averaging around 81% this year.

You could argue that the Booth is too large, but that is disproven by the attendance figures.

Winning = Attendance = Better turnstile rate.

Unfortunately, we suck in that metric.

There is a reason why the secondary market sucks.
There is a reason why Wizards seasons tickets are actually considered a value...compared to other markets
I can't fathom a reason why our GM is still here.

Look to the secondary market to gauge the interest and health of the franchise. Owners like dynamic pricing...not to undercut STHs, but to have the leeway to raise prices when a team is hot. Chicago started this. The Wizards can't benefit from dynamic pricing because their GM is shortsighted and does not do his job well.

If this team was doing so well.....turnstile rate would be WAYYY up. You can graph this for each month this season...and it has not really changed.

A good corporate example is Microsoft. Balmer is very smart...but he was not the right person to be the CEO of Microsoft. Once he left the stock has good up. If Grunfeld is shown the door....the same could happen to this franchise.....how many people would begin to believe that Ted wants to win vs save money. Or values the fan base vs an employee. Or understands that business has no emotion. I'd rather be rich and stupid, than have a PhD and be a barista.

Except... that thread has REALLY made EG look bad :)

Although this thread continually slaps you in the face with only 4% of posters wanting to keep EG.

Does anyone else see the irony of this thread so often being close to the Ernie praise-a-thin (Grunfeld a Great GM. Proves Doubters Wrong)?
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

Read what you just wrote. Is that an honest intellectual exchange of ideas or was this supposed to be in green ?

milellie111 wrote:So are you really trying to convince everyone that Grunfeld was responsible for the Arenas and Crittenton gun situation? Or that he was solely responsible for Andray getting busted with prostitutes? Really? There is no way to forsee such issues just as other organizations cannot predict when a player will go off the deep end and cause issues. What defines a smart GM is how you deal with such issues when they arise. Do you keep them around and let the problem fester or do you clean house? Did the Lakers know that Shaq and Kobe eventually would not get along or that Kobe and Dwight would not be able to play together? No GM can see into the future, so why are you requiring that of Grunfeld?

As for Booker not getting in until Nene got injured, thats how the cards fall sometimes. Opportunity presents itself for the next man up. We should be thankful that we have a legitimate backup power forward to step up. Grunfeld has ensured a measure of depth.

Over the past several years, he has had a 6th pick, a 17th, an 18, and a 23rd pick in the draft, as well as several high second round picks. He also traded Kirk Hinrich for young talent, and all he has to show for it Booker, and you claim he has ensured a measure of depth.

Depth in this case meaning people who are contractually obligated to play basketball for the Washington Wizards.

If EG had ensured that the Wizards had very good depth, why were the Gooden signing and Miller trade necessary. The fact is EG has failed in numerous attempts to add depth and talent to the team (Maynor, Crawford, Singleton, Vesely, Mack, Seraphin, et al), and he only lucked into Gooden and Miller, which is only keeping the Wizards as a barely above .500 team in a historically bad east.

milellie111 wrote:Injuries my friend. It happens to every team in the NBA. Maynor was not fully recoverd from his ACL injury.

That lie has already been debunked by others. Maynor was fully healthy. He was just bad. And, at the PF position, the signing was necessary because EG was awful at drafting and gave the Wizards useless players like Seraphin and Jan "Everyone who knows basketball knows Jan will soon be producing for the Wizards" Vesely.

And, you mention Temple as if he provides great depth. Nivek has mentioned numerous times, that his production has been very close to the worst in the NBA this season.

I can respect that you might enjoy the Wizards, and like what EG has done to get the Wizards in the position that they are in. What I can't respect is that you are clearly willing to say things that are untrue in EG defense. You are also willing to minimize things that are true so as to make it easier to defend EG. Please stop being dishonest in your defense of EG.
