Looked at the NH game and grimaced when I saw the score. Relieved when I saw that the pitcher was Scott Copeland, Organizational Warrior, rather than one of the prospects. Sorry Scott.

And if Norris' day ends after five, it has been a very good day. 5 hits (four singles and a double) over 5 IP, one earned run with 5 Ks and no walks.

Unfortunate news for Jameson Taillon. Looks like he needs TJ.

The no walks is nice to see.

With the way he finished out the second half in Lansing, this could be a big year for him.

Terrible news for sure... especially bad for the Pirates since they were probably counting on him to give them a similar boost later this year as Cole did last season.

Through five games, Dwight smith Jr. is hitting .474 with today's two homers. No walks, but no K's either. Will be interesting to see what level he can sustain, and whether he can merit an in-season promotion to NH.

Kyle Drabek threw 83 pitches, with 66% of them going for strikes. That's good. They were turned around for 6 hits over 5 IP, including a home run, a double, and four runs (three earned). That's bad. But he only walked one. That's good. But he only struck out one, as well. That's bad.

Interesting pitchers' day in the minors: Starters are Nolin, Sanchez, Boyd and Robson.

Update: Scratch Dunedin, ppd rain

Really rough outing for Robson... 2.2 innings, 3 hits, 4 walks and 2 Ks.

Sanchez also having a rough outing with his command... 5 innings, only 47 strikes of 84 pitches, 5 hits allowed, 2 walks, a hit batter and 3 Ks.

edit... solid outing for Nolin though... 68% of his pitches were strikes, 85 pitches through 5.2 innings, 7 strike outs, all swinging. Allowed a homer, but all in all not bad from the looks of it.

Sean Nolin went 5.2, 5 hits, 2R, 1ER, 1BB, 7K. Both runs came after he had gotten the first two batters in the inning.

85 pitches, 58 strikes.

Left with a 4-2 lead.

Well, we'll leave out the Ricky Romero and Deck McGuire bloodshed. Let's just say they didn't have good starts. Matt Boyd gets start of the night so far, five innings of shutout ball for his second win. 3h, 1BB, 4K.

Curious what his fastball is doing. Reports late last year were that he was pitching in the high 80s with flyball tendencies, which is a scary combination, but he had a bigger fastball before. Should move quickly...AA will be a real proving ground.

89-91 in his first start according to Chris King from BP. Topped out at 92. Commanded it well to both sides apparently. He was impressed with his curve too.

Don't want to make too much out of a couple of outings... but perhaps Jenkins is finding his niche out of the pen... 4 innings, only 1 hit and 4 Ks tonight.

That's following his first outing of 2 innings, 1 hit, 1 K.hh

He certainly had nice numbers out of the pen last year.

I'd take a Shawn Camp-esque reliever, certainly.

Dwight Smith with another XBH off a lefty, this one a double. He's Dionering it up...27 plate appearances, no strikeouts, no walks, 13 for 27 start.
