I feel good for Mainz. Let Augsburg play the lousy Europa League.

There is nothing to win for Mainz in the EL. In mid-week EL games we would likely not even have 20.000 people in the stands unless the opponent is well known.
We would be more likely to get in relegation trouble next season.
Finishing worse than without EL games will also give us less tv revenue from the Bundesliga deal.
We would also likely invest in more roster depth rather than buying just a few quality players.

Overall, the only spot I would take is the fourth spot hoping to park the bus into the Ca$h League. But since we have lost in Frankfurt today that seems rather unlikely. Might as well finish 8th rather than 5th-7th then.

I remember when Mou was awesome (and not so surly all the time), but I think Kloppo trumps even that-

Klopp really is a star in his own right. That leap today was epic.

Speaking of, I just saw this clip and couldn't stop laughing. When he asks Kahn if they'd ever had any sort of association before the show I just lost it.

Never thought that Braunschweig could bring themselves in a spot again where they have a legit chance not to be relegated.

Well, that 4th spot only guarantees CL qualification and as Mainz(or Gladbach) would be unseeded you'd have to take on the likes of Arsenal, Napoli, Bilbao etc.

So the only thing that 4th spot guarantees is a spot in the EL, with two extra games that net you about 2 mil euros of extra cash.

Anyways, even though most in Germany are saying that the really interesting part now is the fight against relegation, the fight for international spots is pretty interesting as well.
There are now five teams fight for four spots(if Kaiserslautern doesn't do the impossible thing and beats Bayern) and there are quite some head to head matchups of those teams as well.

I just hope my team somehow manages to grab one of those spots, cause even though we're at 4th place right now and have very good goal difference, we only have two home games left and will need to win those, to manage qualifiying for europe, where we'd most likely be one of the teams with the highes attendance numbers.

Our final five games are:
Stuttgart(H)
Freiburg(A)
Schalke(A)
Mainz(H)
Wolfsburg(A)

Especially those last three are going to really tough and we also haven*t beaten Stuttgart at home for quite some time while always having a hard time at Freiburg.

As I said. I would've taken a chance to park the bus into the Ca$h league. 5 to 7 isn't really worth fighting for.

Well, for Gladach it actually is.
Though, we're not just playing in front of 20,000, but more like 40,000 or more on Thursday nights.

Gladbach actually has a relatively deep roster so you don't have to fear dropping off in the table.
Mainz 05 roster is constructed for Bundesliga and DFB Pokal only. Roster depth is good but not enough for an additional competition. We have 14-15 quality players. Everyone else you don't want to rely on.
So if we play EL as well we are gonna finish at least 5 seeds worse in the Bundesliga standings. That's probably enough revenue loss from the Bundesliga tv deal to nullify any positive financial effect from the EL games.

For Frankfurt & Gladbach the EL is obviously much more profitable since (compared to Mainz) at least twice as many people will attend the games.

We hardly sellout regular Bundesliga games on Saturdays. I can't ever imagine us selling out Thursday evening 9 o'clock games against most likely no name teams from Eastern Europe.

Well, we're working really hard on our roster, especially with adding Hahn, Johnson and most likely Traoré, which will add some depth.
We're also said to be working on another offensive player(for example Drmic, but I doubt it), while Max Eberl confirmed yesterday that we're in negotiations with a young centre back and are hopeful to sign him.
That would most likely be either Fabian Schär or Matthias Ginter, as both of them have been mentioned since by Kicker(Ginter) and Bild(Schär).

As far as Mainz goes, I agree with you.
You've done a remarkle job positioning yourselfs as a regular Bundesliga side that can even qualify for Europe, if the pieces fit together.
Though, it's tough in that region with Frankfurt, Lautern and even Hoffenheim to compete, as the first two are traditional power houses with a big fan following and with Hoffenheim buying every youth player they can get their hands on.

Anyways, if you think it's better to avoid EL(and the fate of teams like Freiburg this season) then I wouldn't mind us beating you at home on the next to last day of the league. :P
Also, I do like you, due to that cup(DFB Pokal) game we had a long time ago when we won 5-4 at your place and both teams fans cheered every goal starting at 3-2 or something.

Yeah, that's tough and we also had some luck with the drawing and with us being back in Europe for the first time in 16 years.
We had Marseille, Besiktas and Limassol of Cyprus at the group stages and Lazio in the round of the last 32.
Though, we managed to have 10,000 supporters in Rome on a Thursday afternoon.

That showing in Rome blew me away and made you guys my favorite first league team. You took over that stadium and were outstanding despite being outclassed.

If you can snag Drmic and Schär/Ginter to, that'd just be amazing as they're exactly the guys you need.

As expected, Adrian Ramos will leave Hertha for Dortmund at the end of the season. I'm happy for him. He had a great year and will get his opportunity to play in the CL and Hertha will receive a lot of much needed money.

It will be interesting to see who will be replacing him next year. I don't really think Lasogga will play for us again.

deal for Ramos is for 9 million Euros. Zorc also made it known that Dortmund is still looking to buy another striker in addition to Ramos.

Drmic? Doubt he is going to stay in Nuremberg for much longer.
