Probably not this season...he's just nowhere near ready. Has fantastic stuff, but he's still wildly inconsistent; he would not be an asset at the major league level right now.

Right. Stroman is much closer, and the way this team's starters crap the bed and the relievers get seriously overworked, it wouldn't shock me if he made an appearance later this season, if only for a September call up.

Wouldn't surprise me if Stroman is much closer than that. If we still have a question mark in the rotation (we will), and he's still pitching well after 10-12 starts, he might find his way up in June/July.

Dunedin's pitching staff entered today with an ERA of 1.83...thanks to 4 innings of one-hit shutout ball from dear-god-does-he-look-good Daniel Norris, that might drop even further. That he walked two batters is the only bad thing you can say, but a 17:3 K:BB doesn't suck. Neither does an ERA of 0.60.

Move over, Lansing, there's a new very talented Jays A-ball affiliate in town.

Edit: end result, a Norris/Champlin one-hitter over eight innings.

Wasn't there something with Norris where they didn't let him throw anything but fastballs so that he could learn fastball command and then when they let him use his off-speed he started dominating?

There was something with him where the switch clicked, I remember.

The hit was initially scored an error on Pierre as well. It was only changed to a hit two innings after, probably a result of home town scoring once the combined no hitter was becoming a possibility.

I'm curious why he only went four though... hopefully it was pitch count and not something more concerning.

In the "potentially maybe a little interesting" category, Schimpf is playing second tonight.

Maybe it's so they can get Burns some run at short, or, maybe they're interested in getting another look at Schimpf there.

I know the reports of his D have generally read like a horror story, so I'm probably reading far too much into this.... but reading too much into it would be the natural reaction of seeing Goins get regular at bats, the desperation of hoping that some other short term answer is there on the horizon.

Then again why doesn't Kendall Graveman just go out and throw 8 and a third of no-hit baseball?
Sounds like Lugo had a shot to make the play on the short hop too.

I laid down the gauntlet, it must be said.

(Dunedin's also through five scoreless, so yeah...your move again, Lansing)

On Graveman: he was a senior sign that was expected to either move quickly or move not at all. You'd have to think that, should one of the Dunedin starters (probably Boyd) get an early promotion to test themselves against real competition, Graveman will be moving up to find his level as well.

Sean Nolin with a bounce back performance, three hits, a walk and seven Ks in six scoreless innings. BUF lost that 1-0 on a walk off single.

Matt Boyd pitching for DUN right now.

He actually gave up a run - a homer. But still nice

Looks like Dunedin is playing, what is undoubtedly, Schad's favourite team, the Brevard County Manatees.

If you could 'shop an "S" where the B is on this: http://content.sportslogos.net/logos/43 ... kh54tb.gif then it might even be time for an Avy replacement. :D

Definitely couldn't keep it as is, 'cause around here he'd look like the last Colangelo supporter.

Emlio Guerrero is on fire, I loved his swing in spring training, he's also been recognized as a real prospect by chris King, BP scout, he hit another home run today.

Lastly, pompey continues to get on base.

:)

For me Guerrero is a pretty exciting prospect: a 21 year old 6' 4" shortstop who doesn't strike out much and shows decent pop with the bat.

Pompey up to a perfect 8 SBs in 8 chances. He's hitting .328 and getting on base 39% of the time. :o

For a switch hitter, that guy has some serious lefty/righty splits so far this year. He's hitting .409 vs righties, but is only 1 for 14 vs lefties.

Interesting start for Stroman tonight: Victorino and Middlebrooks making rehab starts with a good Pawtucket team.

Pawtucket Bottom of the 1st
Justin Henry called out on strikes.
Shane Victorino pops out to first baseman Dan Johnson.
Will Middlebrooks strikes out swinging.

For Stroman tonight, 10 hits(9 singles) in 5.1 innings. Who knows what to make of that.

I probably wouldn't make too much of it... It's a lot of contact, but that's going to happen sometimes when someone throws as many strikes as Stroman does... And without knowing for sure how well the contact was, the fact that there were nine singles would lead you to believe he wasn't being crushed.

He still recorded 5Ks and induced 7 ground outs to no fly outs, both of which are positives... And he was sitting 94,95 in the first couple of innings and touching 97, which is the best velocity i've heard from him this season.

I see Dickie Joe Thon is starting in LF. Not sure if he's done this before and I'm too lazy to check boxscores. What's notable is that he's made two outfield assist, although the one doesn't really count since it was due to Clint Frazier missing first base on a double.

Jairo Labourt had a rough go in this game as he only managed 1 out while giving up 2 hits and 2 walks for 4 runs.

Thon definitely was there at least once this year because I recall him already having an outfield assist.

Labourt is really struggling to throw strikes... he may find himself back in extended sooner than later, although, you hope that maybe he's just having trouble adjusting to the weather, since this would likely be his first exposure throwing in these temperatures.

Edit... Although, the game time temp was listed at 72 degrees tonight, so that theory pretty much doesn't hold.
