Dwight Smith and Dalton Pompey continue to hit well. Smith 2-5 (.343), Pompey 3-5 (349). Guerrero was 2-5 with a double to raise his average to .306.

Stolen base #9 for Pompey.

Dunedin hasn't been this interesting in a while.

Jairo Labourt had a rough go in this game as he only managed 1 out while giving up 2 hits and 2 walks for 4 runs.

Thon definitely was there at least once this year because I recall him already having an outfield assist.

Labourt is really struggling to throw strikes... he may find himself back in extended sooner than later, although, you hope that maybe he's just having trouble adjusting to the weather, since this would likely be his first exposure throwing in these temperatures.

Edit... Although, the game time temp was listed at 72 degrees tonight, so that theory pretty much doesn't hold.

Lots of offence for Lansing tonight: six players with two hits each.

(What is the score with Derrick Loveless, a .214 hitter last year with Bluefield - a 27th rounder in 2011 who hadn't shown a shred of life in three minor league seasons, now hitting .314/ Aberration?)

Could be an aberration... he got off to a similarly hot start last year from what I remember.

But he was one of those raw athletes when drafted, so who knows really, perhaps something is clicking.

Would be a nice surprise for sure.

Edit... just quickly looking, his BABIP is hovering around .500, and his strikeout rate is around 29/30 %.. so I'd probably lean toward aberration, but on the plus side, his walk rate is solid.

Would like to see a bit more extra base hits from Pompey, and the strikeout rate is starting to rise a bit again, but this looked like it could be his breakout season and he hasn't done anything to change that.

Guerrero is going to start generating some serious buzz... he has been killing it lately, a slash of .382/.400/.706 in the past ten games now.

His bat becomes insanely interesting if he stays at short; which seems unlikely due to his size, although the Dunedin radio guys were commenting the other day about how smooth he looks in the field.

Yeah, even if Guerrero has to move to third, that's still a position of real value if he can hit. If he can stick at shortstop, hoo boy.

Only negative is that he isn't walking, but that certainly hasn't been a shortcoming in previous stops.

Ryan Schimpf has 7 walks, 1 strikeout, 2 doubles and a homer in his last 15 plate appearances.

I assume we're just keeping him in NH for the lulz at this point.

Yeah, a bit early to be concerned... but I agree, if it's at Gustavo Pierre levels still by June, then it would raise some questions.

But man oh man, those extra base hits are so nice to see early on... After the spike he showed July/August last season, it's encouraging to see it carry over right out of the gate.

One of those doubles last week was crushed off the top of the wall too, so it's not like he's just getting lucky.

Stroman went 5 1/3 last night giving up 4 runs(3 earned). Sounds like he gave up 2 runs on a Wild Pitch/bad throw from Kratz by a reliever with 2 guys on.

He gave up 10 hits, but struckout 5 and walked 0. More encouraging signs from him.
That's what she said.

Stroman has yet to give up a HR, is striking out 11 per 9, and has given up 6 walks in 20 innings with 5 of those walks coming in one start.

He has is showing very positive signs right now. Whether he can keep limiting home runs as he gets more starts and eventually reaches the Majors will determine how good he will be. So far, so good.

Curious move... Wilson is having a rough go at NH, but Darin Mastroianni is really nothing more than fodder for Buffalo.

I would guess Wilson passes through waivers and is outrighted to NH though.

10 hits in 5ip is too much for me. His WHIP is 1.35.

The BABIP is high as well so we'll see if that normalizes. The key for Stroman is fastball command because that pitch is very hittable. If he never gains command on that pitch he will be a backend starter at best IMO.

That Mastro signing is rather odd. We already have a fast guy who seemingly doesn't hit much in Gose, and a guy who has hit pretty consistently but doesn't run as well in Pillar.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Encouraging start for Gabryszwski today. He went 8 innings and gave up just a run on 5 hits. Didn't walk anyone and struck out a career high 6.

Yeah, this seems more like a simple acknowledgement that Wilson doesn't merit a 40-man spot. Mastro will hold one and serve as insurance for the moment, but he probably lasts only until the next shiny object appears on the waiver wire.

Pompey doing a great job of reaching base. Tonight was the 11th time in 16 games that he's been on base two or more times in a game.

Smith Jr. was 0-3 but had 2 BB
Guerrero extended his hit streak to 10 games going 1-4

Yeah I mentioned in the game thread, that as long as Lind is out, they might want to have one more OF body to ensure that Gose stays in Buffalo all year. I think they definitely want to see 500 abs for him an don't want to stash him on the Jays.

I hope Gose does stay in Buffalo all year. No need to rush him to the big leagues. Let him work in improving himself in AAA, without being pressured to perform in Toronto.
