wait a minute... now i'm not doubting sterling is a racist... there has been discussion before... but did anyone actually listen to the whole conversationg with his girlfriend... it honestly sounds like the girlfriend is trying to bait him... i'm not saying he's not lying, but he even says things like i have no problems with minorities, i love black people, i don't mind if you hang out with them, JUST DON'T PUBLICIZE IT... that's the key sentiment here.

like i originally posted in this thread, without having listened to the conversation, the chick looks black... and she is, she admits it in the convo, she's black and mexican... and she asks him several times, "do you want me to change the colour of my skin..." and exasperated, he just keeps saying, "no, why do you keep asking me that?" he obviously knows he's dating a minority chick and doesn't give a ****... so why is everyone getting on him for BEING RACIST... in fact, in the beginning he even says, "PEOPLE THINK you're latina or white." IMO, and I know i may get flamed for this, but it seems to me that donald sterling is just trying to keep up appearances... maybe there are people in his life that he associates with that are racist, and to fit in with that crowd, he wants to appear like he doesn't associate with black people... and i'm not justifying that sentiment either, but i think people are overreacting a bit, especially these rappers like lil wayne and snoop dogg, who just keep yelling out "**** sterling."

this quote alone raises questions:

It's unintentionally hilarious that in spite of Donald Sterling's horrifically racist idiocy, the one thing he's done that caused the most pain and suffering for his franchise is employ Elgin Baylor, one of the first African-American GMs in history (not the first though) for 22 years. 22 years of near ruination and some of the worst team management in the history of any sport. Not only is it amazing that someone as racist as Sterling would actually hire an African-American to be his general manager, but keep him in place for 2 decades in spite of horrendous on-court performance and laughingstock off-court identity.

Sterling getting upset with his girlfriend for posting a picture of Magic Johnson on instagram,and then telling her not to bring black people to games says it all. If he was trying to keep up appearances with racist associates the last thing he would do is own an NBA team. At the end, all Sterling cares about is making money.

He's probably pretty upset that this conversation got leaked. Sterling has been taken to court in the past for racism where he has settled the cases. I don't know how he will be able to keep the team after this situation.

Mr. Silver speaks "legalese" very well & it showed during the press conference. He denied nothing. He admitted nothing. Let's see how it plays out. An excellent question, and I'd have to review the video to get the journalist's name/publication, was whether Sterling would be suspended pending the investigation.

As we've seen with Nene, Nick Calathes & Larry Saunders, punishments were meted out swiftly but, there does seem to be a double-standard in this case. Mark Cuban has had his knuckles rapped early & often so, I'm wondering if this "kid glove" treatment has to do with "the Old Boy's Club" or the nature of the offense.

Suffice to say, many of the NBA's (former) stars seem to feel a "zero-tolerance" approach would be best. One HOFer chose to speak through his publicist, but that's not surprising ... he he he ... he did the same thing when asked about the sweatshop laborers who produce his signature footwear.

This might give you a better idea of who Donald Sterling is, and why he made the choices he did. He most likely employed Baylor because he was the cheapest GM around and was a willing yes-man to Sterling's meddling with the team. He's notoriously cheap.

On the other hand:

1. I wish the players would come together, mobilize their power (strike?) and force/pressure Sterling to move out of the NBA

A rep from the law office representing V. Stiviano tells TMZ ... they heard NBA Commissioner Adam Silver state his intention to interview Stiviano, but that's not going to happen right now. We're told her lawyer, Mac Nehoray, will not allow her to answer questions about pending litigation against his client filed by Sterling's estranged wife.

Shelly Sterling claims in her lawsuit Stiviano embezzled $1.8 million by scheming to get as much as she could from an old man -- Donald Sterling. Stiviano claims everything she got was a gift. Nehoray says her refusal to talk to the Commish has nothing to do with the audio tape ... he believes talking to Silver would get in the way of her defense in the lawsuit.

We're told Silver will have to agree to some major limitations in questioning ... before his client would talk. But we're told that won't happen anytime soon.
