In 2011 there was one guy with a 5-star potential ceiling: Kyrie Irving. In 2012 there was one guy: Anthony Davis.

This year there are five: Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker, Joel Embiid, Dante Exum and Zach LaVine.

LaVine is very, very, very unlikely to reach his potential ceiling, but the fact that it's there, that it exists, is what made me scour every single UCLA game this year for the few minutes he had!

there's a flaw here. what if no one ever said "westbrook with a shot". that is basically why he's being drafted.because he has done nothing westbrookian nor done anything jj.redickian

I think Zach's definitely displayed a Westbrook-level of athleticism in the way he attacks defenses.

Scouring through UCLA's general sports highlights for hours I found lots of examples that really made me excited.

He's a good shooter but not great, but that's true of Westbrook too.

Maybe the main difference is his strength and bulk, or lack of it!

as a bruin, i can tell you for a fact that lavine has not successfully attacked the rim,,,to such an extent that i can say that with a blanket statement. some people are saying he lacks strength and bulk....i reserve judgement. as for his athleticism, particularly his dunking and leaping ability, let's face it, he's a pogo stick. however i have seen him NUMEROUS times, as in not just once of twice, fail to reach the rim when he TRIED. norm powell, not half the 'athlete" lavine is, will dunk at the drop of a hat. is lavine some kind of practice dunker or what? :)

if people are going to say "westbrook with a dunk" then i'd like to see ONE play that validates that. something close to this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FP0ua5xFw4 as for shooting, up until the missouri game zach was 59%/54%. from missouri on he was something like 40%/33%. in no uncertain terms, i think these are mediocre numbers and performances to be considered a front half of the draft.

they're athletic and they're guards. oh, and they went to the same school. that's pretty much it.

comparisons are based on look, not ability and skillset. It's easier that way.

LaVine/Westbrook

they don't even look alike. not in body type, on court demeanor, playing tendencies, etc.
they can both run and jump and they're both guards. whoopdeedoo.

alot to love and hate about the kid.

-explosive athlete with decent size ( minus being a twig) who showed he can shoot.

-but skinny as chit, struggles to finish around the rim and jumper not consistent. far from polished.

man, talk about a boom or bust prospect. he should not touch the lottery. he's simply not ready to play.

im rooting for him though. didnt see alot of live play, but seen a few games and studied some of his tape. love his athleticism.

everyone is probably salivating over exum and lavine bc of how they tower over all the other point guards at the combine

day 1 is the perfect venue for zl. he can show his goods without impedence. btw,,,he has small hands which i suspected all along. explains his inability to finish, to control the ball on the ally oop, and why he always does things with two hands.

i always thought he couldn't finish because he's light in the ass and shys away from contact at the rim.

i've seen him miss open two handed dunks after he got by his man. he only started attacking the rim in traffic in the end of the season,,,unsuccessfully. prior to that he shied from contact period.

hopefully putting size on gives him the confidence needed because that's a tough habit to break and won't get any easier when grown men are hitting you.

A young Jamal Crawford. Don't expect him to be a starting PG or SG for a successful team. Could grow into a good rotational player.

He's an interesting fit for the Wolves because he can shoot and create off the dribble. Two things we lack...

But I don't think I could take him over Stauskas or Young..

He reminds me more of Jerryd Bayless than Russell Westbrook.

Other than being tall combo guards from Washington they are polar opposites. Crawford has always a been super aggressive scorer since High School. Lavine on the other hand is very passive.

If he doesn't learn to play in traffic or with physical contact... He is more likely to become Shannon Brown.

Jamal Crawford was/is an aggressive player similar to Jason Terry.... Basically guys who are liability defensively but top tier offensively...

Zach LaVine needs to learn a lot and change his mindset... But he is young, probably would thrive with a good coach like Popovic who can slot him as an athletic Green.... Or a development coach, on the suns Hornacek could help him improve his shooting some more but he needs to a coach to get him to dunk or slash to the rim.

He really helped himself with his measurements, throwing away the small SG thought out of the window.

Legit SG size.

Could be. Maybe a little Kevin Martin, too.
