Hawks trade Lou Williams and Dennis Schroeder to the Magic for Arron Afflalo.

Hawks get the wing scorer they need, Magic get their PG of the future to play next to Oladipo and Lou's expiring contract.

Thoughts?

No, that is too much for Afflalo. Lou, Jenkins, and a 2nd for Afflalo is as far as I would go. Afflalo is expendable and somewhat overrated. He had his best year last year and in terms of per it was not better than Teague's year.

What if Orlando trades their 2nd first rounder(#12) for ours(#15)? As much as I like Schroeder, it seems like Teague is our PG of the future, and Shelvin Mack looks like he'll be staying around. What if we give up Mack instead of Schroder?

I agree Afflalo will never be an all-star, but he's a player we could go to when teams are focusing on Teague who can drive to the basket and hit a jump shot. He's not a good defender, but Carroll would always guard the other teams best wing player anyways. Good scoring 2 guards are hard to find these days, but he could give us 15 a night.

We are building the Spurs of the East and we don't have a Manu. Afflalo gives us that.

Are you proposing Afflalo and 12 for Lou, Dennis, and 15?

I don't like that trade either. I think Dennis has too much upside to put in a trade for Afflalo.

About Horford, I'm not here to ask about a trade for him because on the Suns board every time people say the Suns should trade for Horford I respond with "There is no way the Hawks are trading Horford...why would they? He is as close to a cornerstone as they have."

But now I see Simmons mentioning him as being available (not that he really knows anything) but do you really think Ferry would trade him? If so, why?

One thing about Ferry is that it seems that every player can be had right now. Doesn't mean that we're particularly shopping Horford, but just that there could be a deal out there that we couldn't say no to. Since you're a PHX fan, I would mention that I couldn't see any deal with the most valuable asset being a late lotto pick being something that would bowl us over though.

I think your point about Simmons is the driver here though. In the end, he makes no bones about being a shill for his beloved BOS teams and whenever I read his stuff I keep that forefront in my mind. The thought process would be that if Horford, a young(ish) AS level PF on a decent contract, could be had then obviously the team who with the highest of the 2nd tier draft slots who has already publicly shown interest in dealing said pick should be the team that would be the front runner for Horford. The 6th pick could be used on a PF to replace Horford and whatever value BOS could add into the deal only increases the odds of a deal happening. Hence, whatever deal any other team would have on the table should be comparable against a fictitious Horford deal that BOS could try to drum up. From our part, everyone knows that we wouldn't say anything since someone could make us an offer we couldn't refuse or we could always pull the bait and switch and try to deal Millsap instead.

Yeah, it makes sense to me why Simmons would say it...

Ferry will only trade him for a player of greater value due to the fact that Horford is a great leader and signed into an extremely favorable contract. We're not Boston, Bill Simmons knows nothing about our team.

It seemed like Ferry was caught between a rock and a hard place with a team that was maybe better than he expected without Horford (and that maybe he preferred the 10th pick and no playoffs than the playoffs and 15th). It seems to me that this team, with Horford, would be pretty tough in the east, especially if the pick is used wisely.

About Phx, yes, I know there is nothing we have that would probably interest you and I've never even pondered a Horford trade. I have kind of thought maybe we should go for Millsap when he is a free agent next year. I guess the best Phx could probably do for Horford would be to try and trade the 14th and 18th to Sacramento for the 8th or Charlotte for the 9th, than package that with the 2015 Lakers pick next year (top 5 protected) and maybe a couple of players (Frye or Markieff and maybe someone else). But that's probably not enough anyway.

If we continue with a 2 pt guard lineup we really need a stretch 4 anyway, or the lane gets too clogged for them to drive.

Ferry might trade Hoford for a top 5 pick, but i don't see any team in the top five in the lottery willing to do a "win now" trade.

Yeah, the comment wasn't for you as much as someone else who was lurking.

The only note here would be that I don't understand the comment about Horford not fitting into the 2 pg lineup; Horford's midrange jumper is elite. Shot Chart:
(Argh!! I can't seem to post an image right now... This will do for now)

All Green except for a corner 3 that he shot all of 6 times. You can check the history as well and see that he's been average to above at just about every midrange zone going back to the '10-'11 season. He's best as a PNR/PNP player but he can spot up from anywhere from the paint to just inside the 3PT line. Just seems that he'd be a nice complement to a team looking to keep others out of the paint... which is actually our goal on O as well. Hence, why we wouldn't be looking to deal him.

Hello all. Just curious as to what value Al Horford has, and if Charlotte would have enough talent to trade for him.

Al Horford, John Jenkins, and #43 for Michael Kidd Gilchrist, Gerald Henderson, #9, and #24(or a future pick protected to s certain degree)

Just a shot in the dark, I know Charlotte doesn't have the best trade assets but figured I'd give it a whirl.

I also think it would be very difficult to convince Atlanta to give up someone like Al to an in-division rival, especially to pair Horford with Al Jeff and Kimba.

I just don't see MKG or 9 being enough to cinvince Atlanta to move Horford.

I agree with uga. If we were in rebuilding mode, this would be a worthy trade to consider. But we are a team of vets looking to compete today.

And we just saw how poorly this team plays with out AL and have no legit Center in sight to fill his shoes in the interim.

Trade Milsap and the hawks (43rd) draft pick For the Charlotte hornets 9th pick in the draft and Michael Kidd Gilchrest. This way the hawks move Al Horford to the 4 and They get the wing shooter/player they need and they can go out and get a big man for the 5 spot in free agency. Thoughts?

I don't think the Bobcats trade their lotto pick for an expiring.

Millsap and Jefferson....DO NOT like each other. That trade would blow up in Charlotte' faces just like it did in UTAH.

Horford + hawks 15th pick for 76ers Nerlins Noel + 10th pick + 76ers 1st round 2015 draft pick

Anyone like this?

Return to Atlanta Hawks
