fatlever wrote:borussia dortmund is definitely fun to watch. i didnt suggest a german team since most small cable providers dont have goltv and even then goltv only shows a couple of bundesliga games a week. whereas, just about every premier league game is easily seen in the US, especially for the big 6-7 clubs. but if you can get goltv, then german league would be a good place to find a new team. i cant imagine bayern will walk away with the league as easily next year, right?

Well, they just got their best striker on a "free" transfer in Lewandowski and will certainly buy about two more top players, given that they're under a bit of pressure after not winning the champions league. They want to show that they stand by their decision for Guardiola and will buy the players he wants at any cost.

Also, one should keep an eye on Wolfsburg. They always had that millions from Volkswagen(and never needed to care about the financial side) and with Allofs as their manager they now know how to spend them.
I could easily see them challenging Dortmund for that 2nd place pretty soon.

As for the availability of games. Yeah, we suck at that cause even though the Bundesliga is a pretty good product we still can't place it well enough in the US and Asia.

Also, it's never OK to be for a frontrunner cause that makes you a bandwagoner no matter what sport that is. :P

@Liver_Pooty:
Just watch some more football, enjoy the world cup(maybe you'll find a favourite player or two) and try to stay on top of things at the start of next season. I think by doing so you'll be able to find the team you like.

I probably should have been put on suicide watch after the Crystal Palace match. 90% sure I would have choked Brendan Rodgers to death if I came across him for those stupid substitutions.

I usually pull for the Dutch in the World Cup, the total football style is what attracted me to soccer. It sucks that their big names are ageing out though.

i will be rooting for USA (of course), belgium, brazil and underdogs from africa or asia should they make it out of group stages, uruguay, chile (maybe?), germany (maybe after group stage). i will be rooting against mexico, spain, italy, france, portugal, argentina. indifferent about the rest. if the england squad had more chelsea players i might root for them, but its just cahill and lampard this year.

EPL Stuff ‏@EPLStuff 1h

Cardiff City made £62m in TV money this season - the least of all PL clubs but 106% more than German champions Bayern Munich who got £30m.

PLs TV deals certainly to help bring more and more talent into that league, at least until other leagues get better deals.

And another question: who is going to play on the defense? Because I find very strange that Jeremy Mathieu is not going with the national team (yes, I´m a Valencia supporter but he has been one of the best CD of the entire BBVA league this year and half ot last season).

Sure, but there are different things to consider.

Of course the EPL is making way more money on tv deals but most if it has to do with the markets they're in(USA, Asia) and with the english fans being willing to pay a lot of money on tickets and pay tv.
They also have to live with games starting on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and even on Monday evenings, which makes it way harder to attend those games.

In Germany the tv stations tried to not air recaps of the games before 10 p.m. on Saturdays but that never worked out and the fans petitioned successfully for them to be shown, as always, starting at 6:30 p.m.
Also, pay tv does not work in Germany, as the germans don't really care for that and there's a big mentalitiy of want everything, while hardly paying for it, which makes it tough on Sky.

Of course the league also tried to split up the games and do something like the british model, but the fans revolted and it never got anywhere.
Because of that it's tough to sell to Asia(the states would need games to be played later, not 12:30 CET) and being behind the EPL for at least 10 years, it's hard to get people interested in other parts of the world.

Anyways, the more interesting thing about German soccer, in the future, will be if that 50+1 rule will stay or not.
Currently, there are already some excemptions(Wolfsburg, Leverkusen, Hoffenheim, Hannover) and with Didi Matteschitz pouring in all that money one should keep an eye on Leipzig, who just got promoted into the 2nd Bundesliga.

I mean, they're calling themselves RasenBall Leipzig, but the RB definatly stands for Matteschitz and his company, Red Bull. He wants to make it to the Champions League and as Austria(Red Bull Salzburg) is just not going to cut it, he'll try to establish a club in Germany that can play for those spots in the Bundesliga.

BTW: Any interest in yet another World Cup manager game, like we did during the last World Cup? Already found one Fatlever?

what is the 50+1 rule det?

i am totally down for a fantasy world cup game. i am sure we can get some interest. i assume espn or fifa (or both) will have a good one. i'll check into it.

det, do you think schurrle will make the final 23-man german team? i know he has a ton of competition for those attacking midfield spots.

anyone else getting ready to watch barca vs atletico at noon? massive game. if barca wins, they win the league, if atletico wins or ties, they win the league. game is on twc 417 in charlotte (bein sports)

The 50+1 rule means that no investors(like Abramovich at Chelsea etc.) can buy more then 49 percent of the club and therefore the club itself keeps the power to make decisions.

Though, it has been modified for billionaire Martin Kind at Hannover(if you're 20 years or more investing as a minority owner of the club) and everyone knows that Volkswagen(Wolfsburg), Bayer(Leverkusen), Dietmar Hopp, founder SAP(Hoffenheim) and Red Bull(Leipzig, just promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga) are the main sponsors and decisions makers for those clubs.

Well, one idea would be comunio.
http://www.comunio2014.com/en/

Players get a certain amount of players drawn and receive a certain amount of money(normally 20 mil euros) to buy players at the transfer market.
You can also sell some of your players and there are no players twice available(pretty much like yahoo fantasy football, baseball or basketball) and therefore everyone has his own team.
Also, players gain or lose value due to their performance on the pitch.

fatlever wrote:det, do you think schurrle will make the final 23-man german team? i know he has a ton of competition for those attacking midfield spots.

I think he'll make it, as he can play some at striker as well.
I think Julian Draxler(has been pretty bad for the last couple of months) will be the only offensive player cut from those final 27.

Very happy for Atletico as they're "my team" in the Primera Division.
I can still remember them winning it the last time with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbank as their main striking force.

Well, you gotta represent Sonics basketball and the guy who made wearing a headband cool.
Also, you gotta represent given that I doubt that there'll be Sonics basketball for quite some time.
