Did he really say that? Because off the top of my head, Josh Howard comes to mind -- 6'5.5" without shoes and has a 7'3" wingspan. I believe Melo also has a 7-foot wingspan but J-ho's is really, really insane.

And to all the smart ass responses about how they play in shoes, well no **** and NFL players play in cleats and NHL players wear skates should they get measured wearing those?

There needs to be some uniform standard due to the fact you have some players showing up to these measurements in 2-3" platforms sometimes, i.e. shoes they'd probably trip out of if they tried wearing them on court.

Its not impossible that a 6'7ish dude is 6'8.75 in shoes.

You think Wiggins looks taller than Scott Van Pelt in that pic? Scott is leaning in even slightly and he looks still taller than wigigns who is standing straight.

Either way the measurements stated in this thread seem like BS right down to the wingspans.

I always felt that when measuring athletes in combine type environments, you should measure them up to their eyeballs, not the top of the head. Having a big forehead doesn't add anything to anyone's game.

Wiggins and Jabari's length are pretty elite at close to 9'0 reach despite their 7'0 wingspan. Add that to Jabari's athleticism, skillset and mobility or Wiggins' freakish athleticism, and I think both guys have a pretty good edge against most SFs in the league.

Got an undersized 6'7" power forward? put him in some thick soled shoes and bam he's sudenly measured at 6'9" in time for the draft.

The point of the measuring is to figure out what kind of player you're getting. Someone can wear massive platform shoes to measurements, but would obviously not be able to in a game.

Lol what? There are tons of them. The average wingspan for a player 6'8 with shoes is almost 7'.

I bet Wiggins is only 6'7 tall without shoes which is pretty good for a SF but he was wearing shoes like K Love or Spencer Hawes did.
Can see Parker around 6'7 1/2 without shoes. If he was wearing shoes which gave him 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 he could pass as a 6'9 guy.

But those standing reaches seem odd. Maybe thats the reason why they didn't attend the combine? So there Agents can claim better numbers for them.

The teams gonna measure them to right? So do they post those numbers they get?

The "because they play in shoes" argument never seemed compelling to me because you could always just add 1.5 inches to a height measurement to determine how tall they are with their shoes on.

At the end of the day, unless you're ridiculously short and have nothing to compensate for it, height matters little IMO. I put much more stock on wingspan and standing reach among those three.

Don't know about you but my standing reach increases if I wear thicker soled shoes.

Standing reach is measured barefoot though so that satisfies the "without shoes!!!" crowd while also giving you a better picture of how a guy stacks up to his position size-wise.

I think it is fair to take off an inch or so. Even then it gives them very good size for their positions.

Wiggins is obviously further away from the camera, so you can't just line up their heads and compare their height that way. Take note how Wiggins' arms are going behind the other 2 guys because they're standing in front of him. Just a little perspective.

Going to the wingspan height thing, I got to shout out Tennessee great Jordan McRae, who is in this year's draft.
He is 6 foot 5 with a 7 foot wingspan. He isn't highly regarded, but someone should take a shot at him in the 2nd round; he is a decent three point shooter and could develop into a defensive specialist.
