I like Deng as a free agent acquisition, mostly from the fact that he has a solid all-around game from both ends of the floor. What Deng would represent in Cliff's offense is a credible threat. Of the other starters, McRoberts, bless him, is not a threat, and Hendo, bless him, is too afraid of his own shadow to be one. MKG? I won't even go there. Deng would represent the same type of threat on the wing that Big Al offers on the low post. Deng's a good passer, too, and an above average BBIQ.
And adding Deng would bring MKG off the bench where he should be coming from anyhow, thus strengthening the bench and allowing MKG to develop.
The market will bear with Deng. There's a diminishing market for older players who want more than they're market value. I seriously doubt any of the teams with cap space want any part of $12M per. $9M per? I could see that. $10M is stretching and $11M could be an overpay. $9M sounds about right on a two year deal with player option for a third, or $10M per on a 2 year deal with a team option on year three.
That should leave enough room to keep CDR, add a third veteran point guard not named Pargo or Sessions and the two rookies. If McRoberts opts out and Charlotte lets him walk, then there should be plenty left for a role player such as Channing Frye or Kris Humphries.
