i could be wrong, but do you honestly think HS ball in Australia is as good as in the US?

I'm not entirely certain how serious they are about basketball. I know they're crazy about soccer there.

Either way, those players mentioned were in HS at least 10 years ago. Modern day basketball has changed so much since then. Modern Aussie hoops could possibly be at least as good as it was here 10 years ago.

Not to single you out, but I keep seeing some variation of this post repeated over and over.

United States HS basketball =/= Australian HS basketball.

Not only is the level of competition at these powerhouse High schools going to be better, but they're also continually matched up against and paired up with the other top talents when they face off in AAU.

This is not an apples to apples comparison.

could be, i have said before that my older brother went to Cypress Creek High School when Amare Stoudamire was playing there as a senior about to go the NBA. I went to more than a few of those high school games and i can tell you first hand the level of competition against STAT was asstastic, There was no one near his size and athleticism at least according to what i remember.

So basically someone is insinuating that the fodder in the US is slightly less scrubby than the fodder in Australia. Talent is Talent man, no matter who you play against you either have it or you don't and believe me it will shine through. It's the same thing man, Exum is coming out of high school it's no different than what other Big time HS prospects of the past had to go through. It's like a broken record, regurgitating the same argument over and over again

If the Magic do draft Exum, they are keeping Meer and Afflalo.

Kobe's rookie season:

15.5mpg 7.6ppg 1.3ast 1.6rbd shooting .417% FG

Exum won't play any more than that at most.

It is like people are already saying Dante is a Superstar ready to start his rookie season without realizing that he is a kid who is super raw who played at Australian HS speeds and can hardly shoot the ball. He is a project plain and simple. Any GM who drafts him plans on Exum riding the bench and learning the game of basketball for 2-3 years before he can start.

Anyone who thinks Exum will start his rookie season has alot to learn about pro basketball. I have been watching Drafts since I was a kid in 1985 with my step father who played College ball and was a HS basketball coach. He knows every player in every draft. Exum would have to do the impossible to compete at the level Fans on this board envision him straight out of High School. Kid is only a project that may or may not live up to peoples expectations.

I do not want Exum because I want to win now, not suck for another year. I want NBA ready Smart, Big 3 or Randle.

First of all, has anyone here said that he will be a superstar? I haven't and I dont remember seeing anyone claiming that he will be.

Second, I havent said that I expect him to start right away nor have seen people claiming he would be. If Dipo couldn't start then certainly Exum wont.

Smart is the most ready player out of the top 6/7 players. But aren't you concerned that Smart plays a very similar game to Dipo? Duplicating abilities and possibly getting on each other's way?

You act like Exum is a raw HS athlete that hardly played with limited skills. He is not a dumb, raw high school athlete like Darius Miles. Exum is a very skilled player that is athletc but you dont want to recognize it.

Solid retort!

First, I seen too many posts stating a starting lineup with Exum starting. And, I was just arguing in this thread with people who think Exum could actually start.

As far as Smart, then most of the teams in the league shouldn't draft Smart because of the same exact rationale. Every wing player can be said to be similar to other players on their team. That is not a valid thought. Exum plays too much like Oladipo also. Thus, we should draft either one of them. It is a redundant and illogical reason to not draft someone.

Maybe, Phoenix shouldn't play 2 PG's either. Thus, there is not a single reason not to draft Smart or Exum if that is the GM's prerogative.

Exum has never encountered this level of competitiion and speeds. Just because he is athletically gifted and never faced intelligent College or Pro level competition doesn't mean he has a super high IQ. Those Australian HS kids looked like they played at the Middle School level. I could look like an All-Star against those kids, hahaha.

I like Smart and I have no problem drafting him, but if Exum and Smart are still on the board I want to take the shot on Exum. Sure you can still have similar size players with similar skill sets on the backcourt with Dipo and Smart, but it can limit us in terms of matchups and versatility, specially since the outside shooting is suspect. The Phx thing works because Bledsoe is clearly not a PG, he is SG with PG size. It helps that Dragic is a playmaker, and is one of the taller PG's and they run a system that allows Dragic to probe and dish. Not many teams run that system, and we are not even sure if JV is a competent coach to implement something like this, and neither Smart nor Dipo strike me as being adept to it. This is one of the reasons I am against acquiring Bledsoe because we already have Dipo. Although Exum's shooting is also suspect, he has a really quick first step, he is a tremendous ball handler, he is smooth and has tremendous body control, and he is a playmaker, to go along with his tremendous size and length that can allows us to play different lineups and create all sorts of matchup problems. He is also not a twig like MCW who has a similar body type, Exum is actually stronger and heavier than he is already.

The level of competition argument is valid if we are talking about an athletic freak with limited skills, but Exum is clearly skilled. He has shown that in international competitions thru his teen years against some of the better talent in the world of the same age group, not just against 5'5 Aussie high schoolers as you claim. Reminds me of watching some footage of the Greek Freak, Giannis last year (I didn't watch nowhere near as much footage on him as I have with Exum), it was clear then that he was a skilled player even though he was playing some very inferior minor league in Greece. It doesn't seem to me like Exum is as big a gamble as you think because he is talented and skilled. He is smart, he has good instincts, he knows the game and he understands it. Some of the young kids that flame out are athletes that have no idea how to play the game and never develops skills or had any to begin with.

I have no problem drafting Exum. My concern is that drafting Exum would mean we drafted a player who we won't even know if he can succeed in the NBA for 2-3 years. Then, if he turns out to be Darius Miles or Reece Gaines material, we are stuck wasting a pick on a Bench player. But, these things happen all the time. Look at Derrick Williams, Bennet, Thabeet etc etc. At least in Smart in my opinion, he has proven himself to have a floor as a solid NBA starter whereas Exum's floor is Reece Gaines or Ish Smith.

Lakers were a 56-win team in Kobe's rookie year... they had something to lose by playing a rookie too much.

this is where the FIBA experience enters into the equation, and that makes it very much an apples to apples comparison. the world's best, including Parker, Smart, Gordon, etc all played on that same level playing field. USA, as one unit, were heads and shoulders better than the rest of the competition, but that's a consolidation of talent. would Parker's high school team have won the WC's? Smart's? Gordon's? i'm pretty sure that the AUS team was Exum's high school team (for the most part).

BMP, dude, you've got to stop now. you've gone into out and out troll territory. you're not bringing constructive discussion to the board and all of your posts are riddled with ignorance and stupidity. i like your presence on the board, but do yourself a favour and just give it a rest, unless you want to put together a solid argument against him. you've acknowledged several times before that you're just 'havin fun', but this aint fun. it just brings the board down, simply because you've got an agenda against Exum/a need to stir trouble. neither of which is conducive to what people want to get out of this board.

I have been saying this for like 2 months but everyone likes to rip me i guess cause i dont have "seniority" and he does. He drives me nuts i am really trying to not take his posts seriously but once or twice is fine. Constant posts of Exum=Reece Gaines drive me insane
Fine print disclaimer for Fultz:
I am high on Markelle Fultz. Yes I understand he is not perfect and needs to shoot more and better and turn the ball over less. I would really like to see him play one more year… and I did and he sucks time to move on.

Does anyone else think its odd that Exum was the only top draft candidate not to workout for all the scouts in LA?

I think it is very odd. A player with so little game experience and information regarding his abilities thinks he is too good to show people he is for real. Definitely, a red flag.

You should consider a career in smear marketing in the political realm, you seem to have a knack for it.

Don't get me started on Politics. I save that for the Current Affairs board.

But, I do think it is odd a player with so little information on him would want to keep his talents and abilities secret. I mean, if he did work out in public or show off, then he could definitely go #1 if he could actually back up his agents marketing talk. Being he is ducking everyone, that just raises red flags more than anything.

At least Wiggins, Parker, Embiid and Smart are still doing interviews and showing off their talents in the past week while we are still stuck in 6 to 8 month old videos of anything relating to Exum's talents. Red freaking flag.
