Rebounding almost always translates and he can do just that, we would KILL on the boards it's not even funny. Vonleh is a hard hat kind guy and he is a gym rat, has a good head on his shoulders just a good kid and that's the kind of guy that Henny Likes you can't deny that. But really though Vonleh at 4 is making more sense if we really are going to keep Afflalo, Hell we might even Keep Jameer.
Think about it is it really out of the realm of possibility that we don't make any moves/trades and stand pat with Jameer and Afflalo with the mindset of making the playoffs? Question is if so would that change how we draft? maybe, maybe not but people are acting like Vonleh at 4 is some kind of travesty when it really isn't if you're really honest with yourself.
To me this draft is broken up into tiers.......Embiid is in his own tier at the top.....then Parker and Wiggins in that second tier and in third tier is the Exum/Smart/Vonleh/Randle etc. In that third tier there is really that much separation of talent imo. That is what has me so back and forth because conventional wisdom says BPA but what is the criteria for that?
The prospect that has the best college stats? the highest Ceiling? the best measurables? or some combination of those things? who knows? I think Henny knows and if Vonleh is the guy then you just have to trust Henny. He has an eye for talent, i mean who knew about Kyle before he was drafted here? Who knew he was going to be this effective? Just keep an open mind, that's all i'm saying
Good character is not enough. It puts you in the selection pool, that's it. Does it sell you? No. You need more. MUCH more, especially at pick 4.
You speak of playoffs and the idea that Nelson and AA need to be here for that to happen. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I don't think they do. I think we can make the push without them. Just depends on our other moves as a whole. Vonleh doesn't make me think we've taken a step forward. I think at best he battles with KOQ for playing time and probably ends up contributing as a bench player. He's got a long road ahead towards becoming anything close to a game changer. Between Harris, KOQ and Vucevic... rebounding doesn't leave me wanting so badly that I would draft Vonleh with that as his best asset to contribute.
And actually, several of us including me spoke of Kyle O'Quinn in our draft thread the year we took him. I really liked him as a target in Round 2 and was thrilled with his selection. Nobody usually remembers that stuff though.
