Whatever money argument you want to have about a Lowry deal, too much or too little or just right, keep this is mind. The cap is going to keep rising, rather fast. It's just $5m this year and may go up another $7m next year. And there is a new US National TV contract - a much fatter one - being negotiated for 2016-17. Lowry's deal is not going to sting as much as some think, even if it looks to rich up front. Key is not locking into a lot of big deals for nonstarters like Fields.

Wolstat is crazy. Kyle shouldn't cost you 11,12 or 13 million a year. 10 mill should do it and 11 would be reaching but 12 to 13mill a year for a guy whose only produced all star number once is pretty crazy to me.
He was the this highest PG in win shares last season. Hard to replace that.

Can we change the title of this thread please? Grange believing it'll get done is a lot different than it being "DONE DEAL". I got excited for nothing lol.

Note: This only works up until the point where you reach the max. Once you reach the max salary you can kiss the player goodbye because all teams can offer the max.
This is why we will build around tier 2 and tier 3 stars and why we will overpay to keep them. Accept this. You know it to be true even if you wish it wasn't.
Reverse that. Nobody wants to go to NY. Also taxes in Canada are lower than NY and California for Sports Athletes. Taxes only suck for Canadians. Corporate taxes in Canada are much lower than the US except in Montana and DC and a few other cases.

$9M a year for Lowry? Some of you guys are seriously nuts. Demar is at $9.5M a year and is considered a solid contract. Lowry is worth so much more to this team than Demar.

Also, demar is getting 9.5 million, Lowry is worth at least 2 million dollars than demar based on production. It's also good if the contract is at 12 million, demar' contract would be capped at that limit on his next extension if he still produces at a lower level than Lowry. Hopefully, the contract is frontloaded like other posted have said, so we get more cap flexibility in the future. It would also be good for Lowry, as frontloaded contracts are worth more according to time value of money.

Honestly, that's better than losing Lowry. We simply can't afford it. Pun not intended.
How do u get to this when his camp has reportedly only asked for 12.5
he'll sign for 12 x3 or maybe 11.5x4
Which I think is a perfect digit. He deserves it, and we can't lose him.

Just thinking out loud here but say Lowry signs for 13 mill a year would it still be feasible to sign Nando, Vasquez and PPat to deals without going over the luxury tax?

What does corporate tax have to do with this?

Re: Grange: Lowry will stay with Raptors, done deal.
Here are some of the tops PGs in salary this year:
Chris Paul $20,068,563
Russell Westbrook $15,719,063
John Wall $13,701,250
Rajon Rondo $12,909,091
Tony Parker $12,500,000
I think Lowry has earned the right to be above Rondo at this stage in his career. He is a comparable rebounder, generates turnovers, and is a better shooter. He is probably getting a deal starting at $12 million and going up.

Owners are looking for hard cap, so you argument could be moot regardless by the time next CBA comes around because if we are sure of anything, it's that owners hold almost all the cards.

If we sign Lowry to 13mil+, we are basically losing either 2-3 of Vasquez, Nando, Patterson or MLE. There is no reason to go into the luxury with this team, none. It would be stupid and be a waste of money. You have to remember that these players are RFA, they will likely get offers from other teams.

And he isn't about to lose Lowry like he did Ennis. If there's a guy he wants and he can make it happen, he will.
