It's going to come down to how much Melo wants to win and not wait a year for something that's an unknown.

He can spend that year counting the extra millions.

He's resigning with New York.

If he stays in NY, we will know he's a liar and it will make beating the Knicks even that much more enjoyable.

Rahm and Obama are buddies for those that dont know.

He can't sign tonight and he has other commitments mainly New York. He gave the bulls and the Knicks first and last. Those are his two main options. That being said it is 60/40 favor of NY in my book. I hope I am wrong.

I don't see an argument for how this was a "+" for Rose. It was huge for the Bulls, but Rose seemingly got pressured from Thibs and Noah.

Enough calling out of fans. Today's actions pretty much prove, that the franchise believed it was important for Rose to be part of this and that he wasn't doing the team any favors by not recruiting.

All of this should have been avoided in the first place.

That same article had Rose clamoring about Melo. For all we know, his comments about recruiting meant he wasn't going to call up other players and tell them to come. That doesn't correlate to him not being willing to be apart of the pitch. You can speculate that Jo's tweet was geared towards Rose and he felt pressured to do so, but it's all speculation. I highly doubt he would let all the bashing from the internet sway what he was doing, or else he would have been back from his ACL and MCL injuries earlier.

This is a + for Rose because he's willing to be apart of a pitch to recruit an FA, and it was proved today. That's fact. Everything else is speculation, but people love to speak up without trying to better understand the context of a quote or what he meant by what he said.

What was there to avoid? For all we know, he was going to be their today regardless if that Yahoo article came out or not.

It seems pretty unlikely that this was all planned from before. If so, why make the comments "He can come if he wants to" and "It's not my job".

It seemed pretty obvious that the Bulls were not pleased with his comments and spoke to him about it. Sure that's speculative, but everything is here.

It's definitely a plus that he was part of it.

I think we can agree Rose isn't the most well spoken person. If a reporter is going to ask a question that's been asked and reported about before, he's probably going to give the same answer as the last time he was asked. Also, context is so important, and this was mentioned in the Bulls Rookie Press Conference, which leads me to believe Thibs/Bulls understood he may not have meant it how the media was portraying it.

Anyways there's nothing to argue (not saying you are trying to argue). He was there today and that's all that matters.

Why are people sweating the max offer like it's some kind of shocking news? We knew NY would offer the max. PJax was just posturing with the discount crap. We knew going in Chicago will not be the richest offer. So, chill out!

Didn't we see something similar to this happen just last year with Howard?

Why are the negative nancies coming out of no where filling this thread with a "Melo is a money hungry scumbag" vibe?

And Dwight is younger with more reasons to take all that money LA offered.

i really dont see the angle that Melo is using us to get max money....they would have gave it to him if he asked for it

but Melo himself said he'd be willing to take less and Phil wanted to see if he was a man of his word and thats why he dared him to take less

If Derrick jumped out of the UC today to prove his health I agree he is signing with the bulls. Otherwise money talks.

More like, well played Melo, well played. It was never in doubt.

It was in doubt.

But I agree that Melo did the right thing (if he indeed takes the offer).
For love, not money.

People don't want to believe. Us as Bulls fans should just keep the hope alive. Who cares if Knicks fan come in here talking about he's taking the money.

Nice. B-Marsh just tweeted out the Melo banners at the UC. Hopefully the Bulls got him and J-Cut involved too!

Dolan would pay Melo 200 million to stay in NYC. It really isn't all that surprising if the Knicks do offer the max contract. And if Melo takes the money, well, I can't knock him for it.

That being said, he's never winning a ring with the Knicks. I'm sure he already knows that seeing as how he's very interested in the open market.

So we got used again to drive up the price. I'm really hating the 2003 draft class now.

5 years at $130 million is the richest long-term contract in NBA history, the second largest total number trailing Kobe's $136.4 million over 7 years. Only Kevin Garnett (once), Shaq (twice), Kobe (twice), and MJ (twice) have made more than $26 million (the proposal's average salary) in any season. Only 13 players have earned more than $130 million total in their entire career, including Anthony at about $131 million career earnings.
"Just gotta stand in front of him," Butler said, as if it were simple.
