In no other sport do the inmates run the asylum. It's a big reason why the NBA is not *nearly* as likable as it was even 10 years ago.

i identify more with the players than with the owners, personally.

it would be one thing if i felt like the team belonged to the fans, but after the last lockout i felt like the owners were the bad guys. so i dont mind the players having so much influence at all.

But they're the owners. Management manages. Players play. If LeBron wants to be a GM, let him retire and be one. Teams shouldn't be held hostage by players.

oh i see.

i guess it comes down to: how good does LBJ think his judgment is? if i were LBJ, i might think that my judgment about managing a roster was about avg compared to the GMs in the league.

and even if i thought my judgment about how to manage wasn't as good as most GMs, i still might trust my judgment because you never know what goals/obstacles a GM is considering other than 'goal: win a championship.' for example, an owner who plans on selling the franchise for a billion dollars in a cpl years might tell his GM, 'give me as competitive a roster as you can in 2016 with no bad contracts. prioritize marketability.' if I'm LBJ, i don't give a hoot about the sales price of yer franchise in 2016, i would want my max salary + maximum opportunity to win (maybe). and since my interests and the owners interests don't align perfectly, it would make sense if i used my leverage to get what I want.

and in this example, LBJ's objectives might align more closely with the franchise fan's objectives.

LBJ might be wondering whether Miami's ownership is all in. i dunno..

Just read Amin Elhassans chat on ESPN. Amin used to work for the Suns.

Basically - Suns have zero chance of getting LeBron. The Heat guys will all be back in Miami and the Suns will make a smaller move for a good forward.

Amin does think the Suns have a good offer for Love with young players and draft picks.

My take - I think if Houston includes Parson and Jones or GSW includes Klay, those teams have better offers

If we could land Lebron, the world is our oyster, and we could sign anyone we wanted, including Carmelo.

Yea but Melo likely isn't going to wait to see what LeBron does. Our advantage was the ability to land both.
Why would James come to Phoenix knowing he won't be playing with Melo anymore.

The media played that up, not LeBron or Carmelo. End of story.

Parsons would have to agree to go to Minny, which I don't think he does without Love. And sounds like GS is keeping Klay. I'm wondering if wolves waiting to see what LA does to judge how good their pick will be.

Also, I don't think Amin is clued in at all...

I remember hearing during a Cavs game last season that since he got traded to the Cavs, Hawes was #3 or #4 in the league in terms of opp FG % at the rim against him. I don't know if that lasted the whole season or not but its something.

He may be worse than Frye but not much worse. He's also a better rebounder and is actually much younger so he may get better on that end. But yea either way, I'm not expecting anything special from on that side of the court.

JDLAW wrote:Here is a question for all of you. There is conjecture that LeBron wants a 1-2 year contract. Assume its a 1 year guaranteed and 1 yr player option.

The premise is a one year out so he can look at NYK next year. I do not believe there is any thing to this. I do not believe Miami will go down that path, because it is only delaying the inevitable rebuild with Lebron bolting the Heat because it is not competitive for a championship.

Do you think the Suns would do such a contact? Knowing you might only have him for a year?

I think they would definitely do it over nothing. I've always thought he might want to go to NY, and if Amare was coming off the books now, I'd bet that's where he would sign. But it's worth trying here for a year...maybe we win it all and he stays. Maybe he really likes it here and stays regardless. Maybe we come close and other guys decide to join next summer when he leaves.

If we land LeBron, I'd so much rather Pau stay out of the hands of the Spurs/OKC.

Is Stein just out there speculating out of his @$$ and getting paid by ESPN?

It's basically what we all do here... I feel I am qualified.

No, they do want him...it's been reported....but tweets like that is just him kissing ass. Otherwise he wouldn't put their twitter addresses in the tweet. I've always kind of thought he's pathetic actually.

He has a little bias against the Suns. He always talks negatively about us now. He thought Casey deserved COY over Hornacek because they overachieved more than we did, among other things. He's also always said Bledsoe will get the max. He's just not all that tuned in with the Suns any more and I think a little bitter.

Funny!

I read Amin's chats weekly and cannot get a read on how he feels about Suns and Sarver. I don't think too impressed. He did say something about when the last big time free agent signed with Phoenix and Colanglo is not walking through the door

i guess he is a better rebounder, but they are both basically no-impact or negative-impact rebounders so far as team rebounding

not a lot to go by but hard to see frye as the weak spot in team rebounding based on lineup splits: http://www.basketball-reference.com/tea ... -3-man::19

despite his gaudier individual reb numbers, the three/four/five man lineup splits from last year don't give the impression plumlee squads were better at rebounding than frye squads-- and plumlee-kieff didn't rebound better than plumlee-frye or frye-kieff. i dunno how persuasive one season's splits are, though.

He's obviously not a Sarver fan. I mean he used to work for the Suns and now he doesn't.

Amin has an opinion. That's all it is. We all have our own opinions. Until lebron or any other free agent signs a contract, everything said or reported is pure conjure and speculation. Sports reporting is more of a he said she said type of thing. Sports reporting is like weather reporting. It changes every hour. I can't count how many time weather reports are wrong. Same goes with sports.
