Not sure why someone who works at McDonald's or Apple or Google or Ford or Amazon, etc. would move for less money in an industry where "winning" only really matters to the higher ups that make boatloads of money. It almost makes less sense than trying to compare the average person's relatively low paying job whose job probably isn't particularly competitive with that of a professional basketball player.

That's not much of an issue any more as they're going to come regardless of the location.

If it's not an issue then why do people make his official NBA salary such a big issue when the reality is that he can recoup any losses with commercial contracts?

It's not analogous at all to our common jobs and our everyday lives, none of us can sign shoe deals or pitch hamburgers on TV. These guys can.

Hey, I doubt Melo even knows what his true motive is. He is probably looking for a reason to take that money and stay in NY. If Phil gave him a nice presi I am sure it just clicked for him.

I agree about the tour. We need to get off the free agency/flexibility roller coaster. Its clearly not an effective strategy for us.

Taxes leave them with MUCH less of their income (about 50%), agents take 4%, PR firms take another 2-3%, money managers take another 2-5%, significant union dues, and that's before they even see a dime of it.

When they get it, they then have their entourages, put their kids in private schools, trainers, mortgage payments of hundreds of thousands of dollars a month (for each house), utilities for those mansions, car payments, etc.

Yes, that's a ton of money for OUR LIFE STYLES, but, when you're living like they do, it goes quicker than you think.
