If Melo told the Bulls that they had the weekend to show him that they can get to $20+ mil, could they do that and not have the media know?
The Bulls will not be paying the Lux Tax this year. The rest is speculation.

So last night it was "lawyers lawyers lawyers" and this morning it's LA is biggest threat to sign Melo? What the hell is going on.

I'm going to go camp out at that law firm with a sign that says "Melo sign here"

I really think it is leverage. This is playing out exactly how it would have to for a S&T to go down. Just seems strange how Dallas and LA seemed to be out of it and then now LA is a huge contender at the last minute. Like if he was really impressed with LA we wouldn't have been hearing all that It's down to Houston NY and Chicago they would have been in the mix too. People were actually saying was a bad sign that LA got dropped from the list of contenders because that meant he wasn't going to use LA as leverage and now conveniently here they are.

I also don't know about the LBJ and Melo with Kobe on LA. That would just be horribly redundant. Honestly if that happened it probably wouldn't even be too bad of a thing because the east would be wide open and as good as they are they would have trouble coming out of the west. They would also have to take a huge paycut while Kobe soaks up most of the cap. If LBJ and Melo really wanted to team up I think it would happen in MIA honestly, they would just let Bosh go and switch in Melo. Maybe force Wade to take that 10 mil cut and try and bring in Pau.

My gut says NY for something close to the maximum.

Yeah, it is all a rating push....but I do feel bad for smaller market teams.

When you include Ft Worth, you are looking at:
NY
LA
Chicago
Houston
Dallas/Ft Worth

The 5 largest cities in America

Remains to be seen. I kinda think he might be trolling us. Said the whole "Melo to Chicago is a lock" thing almost 2 weeks ago, and just keeps saying his "source" stands by it even though things have changed since then and not a single report that has come out has even gone as far to say we're the leaders on Melo.

From the Knicks board Melo thread. The poster is a site admin :D

Is that a real rumor or is he being sarcastic? It reads like a joke to me.

And a giant Knicks homer who thought Melo would re-sign. Maybe the lawyer thing was true.

Let's just hope this hurricane don't kill us!!

It's going to....we're all going to die of heart attacks when we see the first tweet "Carmelo Anthony has decided to sign with the Bulls"

I'd imagine it would be something like this!

Kris Bryant will go down as the greatest Chicago athlete after MJ

edit 7/30/21: okay maybe not, but it was a fun ride nonetheless

Not really worried bout the LA thing. No way he blows his the rest of his prime in LA. ESPN really wants us to believe that he's counting on Kobe with 18 season of miles on those legs, coming off 2 injuries and fighting in the West? I'd still put my own money on NY if placing a bet. I hope he comes here, and if he wants his money and that means Taj gotta go. We thank Taj for his hardwork and get him on the next flight out. It's just business.

I like turtles

There has to be a decision today right? Like seriously at this point I dont even care if he doesnt pick us. I just want the rest of free agency to start (aka our pursuit of Love, Lance, Mirotic)

He didnt use green font, so IDK. As a site admin it would be poor form for him to drop that in there without making it clear he was being sarcastic. Someone else just got scolded by a Mod there for a phony tweet so yeah...

If there was one flaw in this whole recruiting process it was bringing Taj into the meeting. I think it was short sighted to thing Melo would sacrifice that much money to play with a "complete" roster. They should have proposed all options (including dumping Taj and signing Gasol) WITHOUT Taj there. I hope I'm wrong but I think it's just too late to send Taj out now. Not so much from the Bulls perspective but from the players view.

Think about it. You just brought a guy in to help pitch me on coming, a guy who by all accounts has at least some association to Melo no less, and now I'm going to just sign and watch you trade him away so you can offer me more money? Which is really what I'd need to consider playing here anyway?

Players are competitive, greedy, and it's a business, sure. But there's also a lot of camaraderie in the league. Sometimes you reach a point where it's just not "right". Again, I hope I'm completely off here but I think from Melo's POV it just wouldn't be "right" to do Taj like that. But he wants his money and fortunately for him, he's got other options to get it.
