If Melo resigns, Amare is a goner. There was definitely some tension between the two last yr and Phil is on record for saying that tandem is not a good fit. I see us trading for a stretch 4 that can play D and space the floor. Thaddeus Young comes to mind.

I disagree. The only thing you can get for Amar'e is a slightly better player on a much worse contract. Anything else would require sending out assets with him. He expires right when we don't have a lot of $ committed, so we value him as expirer more than like every team.

Also slightly less important, but we actually need Amar'e more this season more than the last 3 years. We never really needed him with Tyson seeing as he never fit with him, but we have like no bigs right now- so we might need him. And since he won't be our problem after next season, I could see the medical staff and coaches being much more lenient with his restrictions. Not to mention, he's playing in a contract year (although in Amar'e's defense, effort has never been an issue).

We should try to get Mo Speights for our $3.7 mil TPE. He's got a team option for next year and fits perfectly in to the TPE. He'd be a nice bench big or even a stop gap starting C.

GSW might need to trade him for nothing since they're $5 mil away from the hard cap (they're hard capped because they used the full MLE on Livingston), especially if they want to use their own $9 mil TPE for someone. Hell, if the situation's right- we could probably get a 2nd rounder of it (seeing what it costs to dump a contract now).

Starting to like this Josh Smith idea if it means dealing JR and/or Calderon. Good compliment to Melo.

Eh it seems too "Isiahy" to me. Trust me I said it in like December that it's fine to take back a 2015 contract if it means upgrading talent enough. But at the same time dumping JR (plus probably Bargnani) adds about $6 mil to our 2015 salaries....but it'd also shed like $4-5 mil this year- allowing a Pau move.... but adding Pau (assuming for $6 mil) and Josh Smith ($13.5 mil) basically kills all of our 2015 capspace. See how many buts I had in there?

Even if you don't factor in Pau, I don't want to take the risk on Josh Smith anymore. I'm way too intrigued to see what Phil can do with flexibility and assets.

I dig it.
The thing that I'm questioning is who can we target to compliment Melo?
If Lebron do in fact go to the Cavs, I think that Love trades happens the next day.
LMA seems settled in Portland unfortunately & idk about other options.
Hopefully Zen got the juice.

Yeah I get what you mean, because it's true that we could be looking at potentially put all our eggs in the Marc Gasol basket (which is risky).

But at the same, worst case scenario: we strike out on all the FAs... we could just go get Josh Smith for what'll be JR's expiring and pure capspace- which unless Josh Smith has a great year, it'll probably net us another asset too. Obviously you lose the year of Smith and risk him going to another team and/or having a good year that pumps up his value too much. I'll take that risk.

The Jazz matched Hayward's offer sheet. They just paid Favors, they have Exum and Alec Burks has a qo next summer too. Please Phil, bring Burks here.

I admittedly haven't watched Burks play for about 2 seasons. Has he really improved?

Shump for Perkins. We're stacked at the 2. I believe hardaway will start and smith will back him up. Get depth At center

I'm surprised we haven't heard about much interest from other teams about Ed Davis, maybe he'll go under the radar and we can swoop him up.

Same with Udoh, although obviously Davis is much better.

signing Bynum to a non guaranteed contract. 26 year old 2 time champ with knowledge of the triangle needs a little Phil and Fisher motivation and leadership should get him to an above average center.

Trade Shumpert and future 2nd for a First round draft pick
Trade Larkin and Tim Hardaway Jr for a first rounder and future 2nd if possible

Go for Kevin Love at Feb Deadline if possible.
Trade
Amare expiring
3 first rounders (1 from Ny 2018 included and 2 from Shumpert and larkin THJr trade)
cleanthony Early

Calderon
jr
melo
love
Bynum( if motivated would start) or Dalembert

With Melo on board, it's time to clear some 2015 money AKA move Jose!

1. Jose for Gary Neal. We a gain a trade exemption of around $3-$4 million too.

2. Jose for Scola & Watson. Scola could be good in the triangle.

3. Jose for Jerebko, Bynum.

4. Jose for Terry & Outlaw or Evans. We waive them straight away
