WHEN ALDON SMITH RETURNS

Post#1 » by 49er4life1979 » Wed Oct 1, 2014 2:06 am

What happens with Lemonier? I doubt the Niners keep 5 OLBs on the active roster. Do they cut him, or put him on 7 player inactive? I'd hate to cut him too soon. Also, I can see Aaron Lynch taking quite a few snaps from Brooks on passing downs if Brooks doesent start playing better. Looks like we may have found a gem in the 5th round.

Brooks has been playing well, in fact he was one of only 2 players to record sacks prior to this last game. Also he has many more duties then just rushing the passer, he's easily our best coverage OLB and it isn't even close. It would be an extremely bad move to take Brooks put on 3rd downs.

By PFF's scoring Brooks hasn't recorded any pressures (hits, hurries or sacks) in his last 78 snaps where he rushed the passer.

Also, his coverage ability on 3rd down is irrelevant because he's always rushing the passer. Lynch has done a better job of pressuring QBs than Brooks so far this year, and Aldon is head and shoulders above him. I would have no problem with Smith and Lynch being our nickel/3rd down rushers.

When Aldon comes back...

Someone like Moody or Farrell would be cut or sent to p-squad IMO...

That would free up an active person if I did the math right so maybe another WR will be inactive?

I don't think they'll inactive Skuta or Lemonade based on their STs... to me Lloyd seems like the odd man out

Moody has been active, so if he is dropped to activate Aldon (or Bowman, or Dorsey. . . whoever comes first) it won't free up a spot on the active roster. It would be a straight trade of Aldon for Moody (who is a better ST player than Lemonier)

I would imagine Josh Johnson gets cut to activate one of those guys, Brandon Lloyd may be in jeopardy as well. Maybe Farrell for the 3rd spot? TJE or Dobbs (particularly for Dorsey)?

I wonder if Baalke is trying to make a trade right now in anticipation of having to cut 3 guys in the next 6 or so weeks (maybe 4 depending on Latimore).

Right, Moody is the more active one, so it would be a 1 for 1. You know, I forgot about JJ. Could we cut Gabbert instead? Gabbert set the Jax franchise back lol.... imo

Is Dorsey coming back this year? I thought it would towards the end of the year if anything, what was his timetable again?

Wouldn't surprise me if Baalke made a trade... but who and by which week? he would still need to see the injured guys before sending off a healthy body.
