NLDS: San Francisco Giants vs. Washington Nationals

Post#1 » by Rafael122 » Thu Oct 2, 2014 1:35 pm

Game 1 - October 3, 2014 @ 3:05 PM: Peavy vs. Strasburg
Game 2 - October 4, 2014 @ 5:37 PM: Hudson vs. Zimmermann
Game 3 - October 6, 2014: Fister vs. Bumgarner

The Giants managed to beat the Pirates 8-0 in the wild card play in game and face off against the Nationals in the NLDS. The starters are not set in stone, but that's my best guess as to what is going to happen. You'll notice that Game 3 does not have a start time yet. My best guess is that this will either be a 9:30 or 10:00 PM game due to it being the only game on the West Coast.

Games 1 and 2 will be on Fox Sports 1, and Game 3 will be on MLB Network.

I still have memories of 2012 and how that season ended, but I really feel like this year's team is a lot better than the 2012 version. Deeper lineup, deeper rotation and better bullpen. Whether that leads to better success in the playoffs remains to be seen. I'm not going to predict a winner, b/c I feel like a jinx but they can go far if everything clicks right. The Nats had 4 days off between games, coming off an emotional Game 162 where Zimmermann threw a no hitter, the first ever in Nationals history.

I don't think the Giants have the pitching or the lineup to match up with the Nationals, but that's on paper. The Pirates were the better team and they got shutout last night, so anything can happen. Also Hudson is a notorious Nats killer, I believe he is 18-5 against us.

Gonna be an interesting series! Can't wait for some playoff baseball, go Nats!

We've got a really good shot at this, we are the better team. It'll be nice to see Stras out there for this post-season.

Lets Go Nats!

I'm envious of the Orioles lineup b/c if they're down 4-0, they can still come back from it. Nats being down 1-0 is the equivalent of being down 8-0. The lineup has enough punch but we can't get anything going with the bats. You would think allowing 4 earned runs in 2 games, the team would be up 2-0 if not the series would be tied. But down 0-2, and if the offense can't wake up, we're going to get swept.

I thought Matt pulling Jordan was a mistake, he had 1 out left and that's the type of decision that will haunt this team. Storen laid another goose egg on the biggest stage in baseball...maybe the Post was too quick to write that redemption article.

A couple of mistakes Williams made:

1. Not starting Zimmermann over Strasburg in Game 1. I think Zim opening up would have set the tempo for the series and the pressure on Strasburg not having to win a Game 2 would have helped.

2. Putting in Barrett in the most important spot of the season. Kid is a rookie, you had Strasburg, Clippard, Storen and even Soriano available.

Also...

3. Lack of a big time hitter. We've got a bunch of slap hitters. As of yesterday's lineup, Werth/Cabrera/Span are not 20 home run type of hitters. Ramos can be, but he misses 100 games a year. Harper has that potential, and who knows with Ryan and that shoulder. His power may be zapped for all we know. LaRoche is a goner, and Desmond is a free agent after next year. This team doesn't have a hitter that can play every day coming up. Souza needs another year in the minors. So what do they do? Who are guys that the Nats can go after to put in that 4th spot?
